Bex sips her drink, smiling. “I think I need a massage and a nap after this.”
“I think we can make that happen,” Jake says.
“Thanks, babe.”
“Anything for you, dear.”
“Ooh! Can we get massages for all the girls? Girls’ massages?” Bex’s face lights up.
“Sure,” Jake says.
Spencer rolls his eyes.
I get some water for myself and Macy.
Noah whispers something in Livvy’s ear, his hands around her waist. Her cheeks and ears turn bright red.
“Yay,” Bex wraps her arm around Macy’s shoulders. “We can finally chat. We have so much to catch up on.” She shoots me a look over her shoulder as she says it.
Oh boy.
Noah gives Livvy a pat on the butt before she goes to join Macy and Bex and then he walks over to me.
I take a sip of the sweet, ice cold water as the sun beats down, hot on the back of my neck.
Noah crosses his tattooed arms over his chest. “When’s the last time you talked to your mom?”
“I don’t know. Last week?”
“She called me earlier.”
“You talked to my mom? On the phone?”
“She is my aunt.”
“Do you two chat often?”
He laughs. “No. She wanted to know how you were doing.”
“Why didn’t she just call me?”
“You haven’t told her about Macy.” It’s not a question, but an accusation.
Fuck. “Did you tell her about Macy?”
“It might have come up.”
“Dude.” Double fuck. She’s going to have so many questions and then I’ll have to let her down when I tell her it didn’t work out.
I wipe a bead of sweat from my forehead and rake my fingers through my hair.
“Sorry. I figured you’d already told her. You two talk all the time.”
“Nah, it’s okay, bro.”
“You should call her.”
“I will.” I clap him on the arm, and as I do, I glance over his shoulder.
