And yet, I pull out my phone anyway.
“Address?”
Rush blinks at me. “What?”
“What’s your fucking address?”
He gives it, and I punch the destination into the app.
“Someone will be here in five.”
Rush studies my face with unnervingly hazel eyes. “Why are you being so nice to me?”
“This isn’t nice. I just don’t want you to die. Which you will if you stay out here half-naked for the rest of the night.”
He sighs and looks away, lip trembling again. “It was a surprise for our one-year anniversary.”
“Your … what?” Dread passes over me. “Anniversary? You’ve been fucking him for a year?”
Rush’s mouth drops, but I’ve all but forgotten about him as I storm back to the house. All those phone calls, all those messages, all those moments where he missed me and wanted me and couldn’t wait for me to move here.
All.
Bullshit.
My jaw hurts so badly by the time I reach the house that I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get words out. I’m not so sure I won’t punch him in the fucking face for all my family to witness. I’m not a violent guy, but turns out being betrayed and humiliated for an entire year will do that.
I throw open the front door and tug off my ring as I cross toward him. Then I flick it at his face.
“Wedding’s off, asshole. Hope you and Rush have a fantastic anniversary.”
Ian’s mouth drops. “Whatever he told you, it’s all a lie. He’s been stalking me. Obsessed with me.”
I laugh and pull out my phone, which is still open on the ride share app, showing the car pulling up out front.
I click out of it and type in 911.
“Call the police, then. File a report. We’ve got his address, right there.”
Panic crosses Ian’s face, and I know I’ve got him.
“That’s what I thought.” I turn to Audrey. “I’m staying with you tonight.”
“I thought I’d outgrown sharing a bed with you.”
“Please, wait,” Ian snaps. “We need to talk. You can’t leave.”
I go to grab my coat before remembering I don’t have it anymore. Well, fuck. It was an expensive one too.
“Can and will. We’re done. I hope you have a merry fucking Christmas.”
Then I turn and leave, my family following behind me.
Chapter 2
Rush
Tears keep dribbling down my cheeks the whole drive home. I’ve got one hand clenched tight around my backpack and the other stuffed inside the coat, trying to warm up.
