Shore nods at us. “She’ll sort you out.” Then he heads back to his office, and the receptionist looks our way. “I take it things went well?”

“Other than being attacked, I think it might have,” I say. “From the looks of things, you might not have to deal with Ian for long yourself.”

The guy grins. “I was hoping he’d show his ass if he saw you both. It’s why I told him Shore wanted to see him.”

“Wait. He wasn’t Shore’s next meeting?”

“Nope.” The guy sighs happily. “Revenge sure is sweet.”

“It will be when I have a place to live.”

“Oh, look at that. Something with Jodie magically opened up. Follow meeee.”

I glance over at Rush, and he glances at me. Is this really fucking happening?

He reaches over to squeeze my hand. “Let’s go.”

We go, and I try like hell not to get my hopes up.

Chapter 32

Rush

Hunter grips my face, walking me backward into his room, punctuating every word with a kiss. “You are—” Kiss. “The most incredible—” Bite. “Man I’ve ever—” Suck. “Met.”

I lean in, seeking his mouth with my own. His big hands warm my cheeks and send my brain fizzy. “Show me how incredible you think I am.”

Today went better than I ever would have thought it could. Jodie was amazing and has a list of houses lined up for Hunter to see already, along with her assurance that if his history is as squeaky-clean as he says, he’ll get first pick of the bunch.

My heart couldn’t be happier. And neither could my brain now that prodding and poking has stopped.

Hunter groans right as my legs hit the side of his mattress. “The things I want, Rush.”

A tremble washes through my limbs. “Like?”

“Like … getting to know you inside and out. Discovering what makes you happy and protecting you from what makes you sad. Proving to you every day how amazed I am that I met you, let alone get to spend this time together.”

“Not the dirty talk I was expecting, but carry on.”

Hunter’s body shakes with laughter beside mine. “Fuck, you make me happy.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Every day.”

“I know that most people don’t value happiness all that highly, but for me, it’s everything. Thank you for saying that.”

“Thank you for making me be able to. You know, for a second, during lunch, I thought maybe you were getting sick of me.”

“Why the heck would you think that?”

“You just didn’t seem to want to be around me.”

I’m quick to shake my head. “I was distracted. Annoyed. For you, not at you.”

“I know.” He squeezes me. “And I’m glad that’s a new thing I got to learn about you.”

I drop my forehead to his temple, grinning against his jaw. “You’re very sweet and romantic, but can we get onto the dirty talk now?”
