The roaring heat in my blood reached new heights, and I felt Kaiden’s thick shaft pulse against my walls. Warmth flooded into me, Kaiden’s spend filling me up.
And then his mouth found my neck, and Kaiden sunk his fangs into the tender flesh. I cursed as a sting of pain licked through me, but then it disappeared, leaving me with the strange sensation of being utterly connected to Kaiden.
I could feel the pleasure swimming through both of us as his shaft bucked again, sending more of his release deep inside me. My heart surged, the sensation like hearing someone say I love you, and at once, I realized that Kaiden had claimed me as his mate—forever.
Exhaustion crawled through me, and I lulled against Kaiden, too spent to move. Without freeing himself from me, he started licking across the bite on my neck and sending shivers through my entire body.
He laid himself on top of me, and we stayed together like that until Kaiden naturally slid back. Afterward, he just pulled me under his arm as he rolled onto his back. The sound of our deep breaths mingled with the gentle rustling of wind outside the house, and then everything drifted away as sleep washed over me.

A few hours later, I woke up again, and Kaiden was still there with me. When he realized I was awake, he looked over, smiling as I still rested tucked against his side.
“Hello there.”
I smiled. “Hi. That was…”
The words faded as I stared off into the distance, remembering.
Kaiden made that purring sound again, and he rolled onto his side to bury his face into my neck, dragging his tongue gently across the bitemark he left. Goosebumps rippled over my skin as he did.
“Hmm, I can smell exactly how you feel about it. That lilac scent of yours is so damn thick.”
Laughing gently, I leaned my head against him as I lay on my back. It was still uncomfortable to lie on my side, and I was getting so annoyed with having to sleep like this. But as far as wake-ups went, this one took the cake.
“Tell me something,” I looked over at him, “yeah?”
“Sure. Hit me.” Kaiden smiled.
“That was a mating bite, wasn’t it?”
His brows rose, but Kaiden’s smile didn’t falter. “It was. Because you’re mine. You’re my mate, and I’ve known for a long time. I should have said something.”
There was a part of me that wanted to get feisty about it, but I didn’t. Mostly, I was thrilled to hear Kaiden admitting something freely. And I was more than okay with being claimed as his mate, anyway.
He gripped my chin, making me look up at him again and pulling me out of my thoughts.
“I love you, Kit. I can’t live without you. I am so sorry the road to get here was so…awful. But I promise to do everything I can to keep you and the baby safe. Forever. You’re my entire world, little fox.”
The tears spilled faster than I could think to stop them, and a sob shook my chest enough to hurt a bit.
“Hey, oh no. Did I say something wr—”
“No! No. Not at all.” I smiled through the tears, wanting to blame the hormones for how much of a sap I was being. “I love you, too. I just…I never thought we’d get here. I’m…grateful.”
Kaiden relaxed, his grin stretching wider. “So I assume that means you’ll be staying here with the pack for the foreseeable future.”
“Where you go, Kaiden, I go. So, yes.”
Leaning over me, Kaiden pressed his lips to mine, sealing our little deal with a kiss. I smiled against him, and his hand found the edge of the bandage. He brushed his fingertips over it gently.
“I’m so sorry about this. I’ll never let anyone hurt you again.”
I shook my head. “Eh. It’s fine. I know you’ll do what you can, but I’m also aware that life is risky. That’s just how it goes. As long as you’re there fighting with me, we’ll be fine.”
“Always, Kit. Always.”
Grinning, I closed my eyes again, content to be a total bum for the rest of the day. “Good. I’m definitely going to need something to eat, though. So fetch your mate some snacks.”
