At that moment, she wished she could open up to him. But she couldn’t trust him with this. Of course, it directly affected him. Yet, if she involved him in it, she would suffer for it. He wouldn’t stand by her.
She’d handle it herself. It was just Ralph. Rayla couldn’t tell him the truth, so she had to get him off her case. She needed something to distract him from her current state.
“Umm… he couldn’t care less if I left. He never really liked me,” she announced
“Hmm,” Xander rubbed his chin. “Okay. Let’s go inside.”
He led her to where Abel stood waiting for them. They went inside. Xander politely showed them around the house. Abel was giddy with excitement. He ran from room to room with the widest smile on his face. When Xander had shown Abel his room, he had squealed happily. Rayla was glad one of them was enjoying the change.
Rayla watched absent-mindedly as Abel and Xander appreciated the room’s interior. She decided to give them time together. She went to get water from the fridge. Her head ached. She massaged her temples with her left hand while she drank from the bottle.
She was getting relaxed when her phone rang again. It was a strange number. The bastard called back.
She immediately picked it up. “What do you want?”
“Hmm. My Rayla,” came the reply. The fool still used the distorted voice.
“I know who you are. You can drop the act, Ralph.” She was irritated. He wasn’t the mystery he thought he was.
“You smart little fox,” he laughed. “I like my voice this way, thank you,” he finished.
Rayla was about to speak, but he beat her to it.
“You ought to be concerned about those cute videos I sent you,” he shot at her. “After all, we both know that they weren’t doctored.” His confidence grew as he spoke.
“Why were you at my house?” she fired. It was an irrelevant question compared to the gravity of the situation. But she needed to know.
“To see you, of course,” he quickly replied. His breath got heavy. “I love seeing you. I love you,” he proclaimed. “But you don’t love me,” he whined.
“You are crazy,” she spat at him. The man gave her the chills. He had always made her uncomfortable.
“Yes, Bitch. I’m crazy for you. That’s why I come out every night to watch you,” he sighed.
He had confirmed it. He watched her every day. She had lived her life without suspecting this. Fear had become Rayla’s close friend. She inhaled but remained quiet. Her mind was running again.
When he noticed that he had edged her into a corner, he continued, “To say I was shocked to see something else the last time I came to see you is an understatement,” he chuckled.
That jerked her out of her silence. “You didn’t see anything,” she shouted.
“But I did… didn’t I?” he teased. “And I recorded it. So, can we talk about that now?” he asked sweetly.
“There is nothing to talk about. The video is fake. You made it up,” she insisted.
“Rayla, Rayla, Rayla,” he called. “Let’s not play games… okay?”
“Your son is a beast, and I caught it on camera,” he pushed.
“It is fake, it is fake.” Rayla was frustrated and annoyed. She couldn’t help when she raised her voice. She quickly said a silent prayer that the guys didn’t hear her shout.
“If it’s fake, why are you worked up, Rayla?” he asked calmly.
She could hear the smirk in his voice. He had caught her. He had succeeded in riling her up.
“If people should see the video, do you think they’d think it’s doctored? Do you want to take the chance? Think about it,” he advised.
She panicked. People could not see that video. She didn’t want to risk this. Blackmailers aimed to manipulate and get things from people. She wondered if she could make him delete the videos.
Rayla had to change her approach. She bit her lips. “Please, can you delete the video?” she begged.
