“Yeah,” she replied, giggling. “I saw the price tag on this dress,” she said to him. “It's a lot of money.”
“You're worth every penny and more.” He smoothed his palm over her soft, silky hair.
She smiled, and a radiant glow enveloped her.
“I'm sorry about earlier,” he said. “I just wanted to be a little melodramatic.”
“I understand.” She traversed her hand over his perfectly knotted tie. “A little drama is a part of romance,” she beamed at him.
“Right?” He laughed lightly. “I'm glad it went as I planned.”
“Me too.”
“You're so beautiful,” he said, looking deep into those green eyes of hers.
“Okay, now you're making me shy.” She giggled, trying to avoid eye contact.
“Come on,” he said, holding her hand. “Let's go so I can show you off to the world.”
She smiled as they headed out.
Elder William had already readied the car and was standing beside it as they gracefully approached.
“Alpha Asher. My lady,” he greeted, sketching a slight bow.
“Why so formal, William?” she chuckled.
“Uh, have you seen the two of you? You're like Jack and Rose from the Titanic—but without the ending, obviously.”
They both laughed.
“Oh, and for the record.” He leaned closer to whisper into Esme's ear, even though he knew that Asher could still hear him. “All this was my idea.”
Asher laughed and shook his head as he recalled Elder William's exact words: “…This is a horrible idea!”
Esme glanced at her husband, and he signaled to her not to pay any attention to him.
Esme laughed. “Thank you for whispering such a wonderful idea to my husband.”
“You're welcome.” He stole a glance at Asher and winked at him.
They got into the vehicle after Asher had helped his wife with the door.
“Such a gentleman,” she had said.
He saw Elder William waving at them in the mirror.
Asher drove out of the town and noticed the amazement in her eyes as they drove into the city. With a beautiful smile, she looked out the window, admiring the tall buildings and skyscrapers.
Neon lights, billboard lights, and street lamps cast soft glows over the surface of the shiny car as they sped across the streets.
“It's beautiful out here,” she said without taking her eyes off the horizon. “So, this is what the city looks like.”
“I promise you'll get to see more of this in times to come.”
She smiled at him and returned to subtly admiring the towering buildings.
After a short drive, he pulled over in front of a fancy restaurant and killed the engine.
