“How are you doing this?” Asher asked Esme.
“I'm not sure,” she replied. “I mean, I knew I could go into her memory, but I didn't think that I could bring someone else in with me, let alone three.”
They seemed to be standing in a forest clearing, watching as life was going on—their ancestors going about their normal lives. Kids were playing hide-and-seek, some women were chattering ina corner, and a couple of men were summoning their wolves.
None of those people seemed to be aware of their presence, none except one: a beautiful young girl with long braided white hair and two different eye colors—her left eye was gray, and the other was green.
“They look happy,” Juniper said to them.
“Yes. Yes, they do,” Asher replied.
“I don't understand how this is even possible,” Elder William said. “But I'm grateful to experience it.” He nodded subtly at Esme, and it was reciprocated.
They noticed the girl who had been looking at them since their arrival, and Juniper asked, “Can she see us?”
“She's not supposed to, right?” Asher added, “I mean, it's only a memory.”
Esme shifted her gaze across their faces and said, “She can… If it's her memory.”
There was a brief moment of silence as they peered at the girl.
“Oh my God… Is that…?” William's jaw dropped.
The young girl walked up to them and smiled.
“Apiana,” Esme said softly, and immediately, a powerful wind sucked them all out and back to reality.
They gasped and regained consciousness back at the tree as they exchanged surprised glances at each other.
“I saw the legendary Apiana—we saw the legendary Apiana.” William was elated by the encounter.
“Esme,” Asher called her softly, impressed by her magic. “That was incredible.”
“Your gifts are beyond this world, and you hone them beautifully.”
Esme was that powerful, and even Juniper could attest to that.
“I'm proud of how far you've come in such a short period,” Juniper added.
Esme had learned a lot in a short period of time and had found a way to manipulate the shape and form of any plant. She had the ability to tell which plants were useful in a particular aspects of life. Esme helped to direct the healers of the Pack on which plant to use to make medicine and which plants to completely avoid.
She was gradually healing the land, ridding it of the curse that plagued it for so long. The people loved and adored her like a queen and that made Asher so proud of her.
He drove into the compound and parked his car. Asher killed the engine and sat to reflect on the moments that had led to this day. He considered himself lucky to have been fated to cross paths with such a wonderful soul.
Asher had gotten used to coming home to her, and each time he thought about her, his face would usually brighten up.
He got out of the car and headed into the house, excited to see his wife. Asher knocked on her door, and moments later, Juniper answered.
“Hi,” he greeted with a smile.
“Hello, Asher.”
She stood by the door, and he wondered why she wouldn't let him inside.
“Juniper?” he said softly, “Is everything alright?”
“Actually, um…” she mumbled, clearing her throat. “There's something your wife would like to discuss with you.”
