“Asher, I don't think that you should…”
“Nah…I got this, Juniper,” he interrupted her subtle warning and stepped forward.
“Alright. Suit yourself.” She withdrew from the scene and decided to be a spectator.
“Stand down, Asher, now that you have the chance. I will not go easy on you.”
“You will not go easy on me?” He laughed at how ridiculous it sounded.
“Last chance. Stand down,” she said, taking a fighting stance.
He cocked his head in disbelief and scoffed;
“Give me your best shots,” he dared her, and she frowned.
Esme's eyes glowed, and a gust of wind blew across her face.
“This should be fun,” Asher muttered to himself, standing his ground.
Vines shot out violently from the trees behind her, flashing toward him. With superhuman speed, Asher dodged them all.
His senses picked up the threats from the ground beneath him, and he willed himself into the air, away from the emerging vines—like predator sharks leaping out of the sea to catch their prey.
He twisted in the air a couple of times, and with each twist, a shooting vine was weaved. Asher landed on his feet and jacked his head in her direction as he revealed his Alpha eyes.
“Is that all you've got?”he asked mockingly with a wicked grin.
She bent her head to one side and said to him,“You asked for it.”
Esme smirked and flicked her fingers, and vines immediately sprouted from underneath him quicker than he could blink. They trapped him, entangling tightly around his feet before climbing up to wrap his entire body.
Asher smirked and revealed his claws as his Alpha eyes glowed.
“Oh, you wanna play, huh? Let's play.” Esme stretched out her hand and squeezed a fist. The vines tightened their grip around him so much that he felt suffocated. But with a loud growl, he exposed his fangs as he cut through the vines with his sharp claws.
Asher charged toward her at superspeed.
Calmly, Esme muttered some words after he broke free and was charged at her. Instantly, the earth beneath him grew more vines that wrapped around his feet, trapping him in his tracks.
With her eyes, she willed two streaks of vines to shoot out from opposite trees, and they did. Before Asher could make any move, the vines stretched out and tied around his wrists.
With arms spread wide against his will, he stood there, unable to move. He tried to tug against the vines restraining his movements, but the more he struggled, the more they tightened their grip around his wrist.
He groaned in pain.
Esme smirked and waved her hands. The trees pulled at him, and he felt like they were about to rip his hands from his body. They kept pulling, not too hard, but enough to inflict a lot of pain.
Asher didn't think that she was going to beat him so easily, but then again, she was a Nature Witch, and they were surrounded by nature.
“You're in my territory, Asher.” She laughed. “You might be the Alpha of your Pack, but out here, I'm the Guardian of the Green,” she teased.
“Message received. Loud and clear, my lady.” He laughed. “Can you please tell your friends to let go now?”
She willed it with her mind, and it happened. Asher was very proud of her.
As he drove back home, Asher caught a glimpse of Apiana's tree and immediately reflected on how far Esme's powers had really grown in these last weeks.
He recalled the time she had a connection with Apiana just by touching her tree. He had witnessed it first-hand.
