“So…” Rowan began as he took a seat on a bench in the hallway, fiddling with the protection charm around his neck. “She's a green thumb, eh?”
Asher had mentioned that over the phone earlier.
“Yeah,” he replied as he decided to indulge in Rowan's way of making him calm down.
“That's amazing.” Rowan smiled.
“What's more amazing is how plants began to grow on the land just hours after her arrival,” Elder William chipped in. “The ceremony had not been performed yet. I'd known since the first time I saw her that she was different.Strange but special. But I just didn't think that she'd be a witch. Fascinating!”
“Fascinating indeed. Witches are very rare these days. And honestly, it's an honor to know Esme. I've never met a witch with her abilities before.”
Asher sat beside him and massaged his eyeballs.
“It makes sense now,” he said.
“What does?” Elder William asked.
“The first day I met her, while I drove her back here, she started to act strange the moment I drove into the land.”
“How strange?” Rowan inquired.
“She said there were voices in her head that wouldn’tquiet. I didn't think much of it at first, butthe day I took her to the witches' graves, she said that she could feel the pain of the dead witches,”he explained.
“Hold on… The human girl you brought home told you that she could feel the pain of hundreds of dead witches who were killed hundreds of years ago, and you didn't think that was weird?” Rowan asked in disbelief.
“Well, now that you put it like that…” Asher exhaled sharply. “Look, the bottom line is that I knew something was up. I just didn't imagine that she'd be a witch… A very beautiful witch.” A smile lined a corner of his lips.
Aslight pause came when he thought about her for a second and recalled how she looked when she was singing to those plants. Asher chuckled softly.
His mind drifted back to the two women in the room across them.
“They're still quiet.” He rose to his feet, worried, “Too quiet.” His senses heightened.
He glanced at Elder William and Rowan.
“I'm going to check on them.” He stepped forward, but the elder stood in his way.
“Maybe we should wait a little longer, Asher. This is witch business; there's no telling what's going on in there.”
“He's right…” Rowan hadn't finished talking when they felt a vibration beneath them as the entire building started to rumble.
“What the hell?” Asher staggered, trying to regain his balance.
All of a sudden, there was a massive explosion of green energy that spread across the lands like a dome. The outburst sounded like a bomb had gone off from inside the room, but there was no fire. The energy crackled like lightning, streaking far and wide over the lands with a swift strike.
Asher and the others looked outside, and they witnessed lush grasses emerging instantly from the fields, nearby trees blooming, and fruits raining down.
“I'll be damned,” Rowan's jaw dropped in shock and admiration.
It was a beautiful sight to behold at first, lovely even, until the fruits started to fall more violently and the plants wouldn't stop growing.
Now, it was becoming catastrophic. Joyous shouts became screams of fear as the villagers ran away, seeking shelter.
The plants in people's houses grew so big that they destroyed the roofsand windows
“Oh no…” Elder William exclaimed softly.
“Something is wrong,” Rowan said.
