She was completely blown away at this point. Her mother was not only beautiful, she was also smart.
Esme watched as the hands of the dying woman glowed brightly as she touched her baby's head. After the light ceased and the glowing stopped, her hand fell carelessly on the ground, and her eyes rolled back into their sockets. She was dead.
“I sealed your powers and suppressed your abilities until you were strong enough.” She faced Esme. “You're awake now. And from what I've observed, you're a Nature Witch with the ability to control anything that has its roots in the earth.” She smiled.
“Witches are very rare. But Nature Witches are even more rare.” She hugged her tightly. “I love you, Esme. And I'm sorry for all you had to go through.”
“No, you can't leave me. Not again,” Esme protested as her mother tried to leave. “Who's going to teach me? You said it yourself that witches are very rare…”
“I can sense the presence of yet another powerful witch. She helped you find me, didn't she?”
Esme was silent, trying to hold back her tears.
“Go to her. Let her tell what she knows about being a witch…”
“She can't tell me about being a Nature Witch, Mom.”
“No one can. I couldn't, even if I wanted to.” She placed a palm on her cheek. “I'm afraid you're going to have to figure that out on your own, Esme.”
“I'm not strong enough.” She wept.
“Yes, you are. And you can be better.” She wiped her tears. “You're my daughter. My blood runs throughyou. You can do this, Esme. I know that you can.”
She took gentle steps backward, and Esme felt her heart shattering into pieces.
“I wish we had more time,” she sobbed.
“Me too, pumpkin.” She smiled, “Me too. I love you, Esme.”
She turned into a puff of smoke and vanished into thin air.
Esme opened her eyes back in her room as tears flowed down her cheek.
“I love you too, Mom,” she muttered softly.
Her emotions were beginning to get the better of her.Her eyes were stinging, and she felt a jolt of electricity surging through her veins.
She tried to control what she felt was about to be an outburst of power, but she was drifting off, becoming unconscious by the second. She could hear Juniper's voice calling out to her, but the sound was so faint and distant that she couldn't make out the words.
The only thing she heard was;
“Esme, you have to stop. You're losing control!”
Chapter 13 - Asher
After Juniper had asked the men to excuse them, Asher had been restless, pacing around the hallway. He was nervous about what was going on inside, and although Asher had suspicions abouther, it all made more sense now. She was more than a human girl.
Funny how just a couple of hours ago, he had been the one consoling Esme, and now he was the one pacing back and forth.
“She's in good hands, Asher,” Rowan said to him.
“I know.” He let out a sigh. “I know.”
“What do you think is happening in there?” Elder William asked.
“I'm not sure,” Rowan replied. “But be rest assured that my wife knows what she's doing.”
They'd been quiet for so long ,and Asher wondered what was going on inside. He feared for the safety of his wife and hated his inability to do anything.
