She recalled as vines from the nearby groove sprouted out and violently pulled them into the darkness, where they remained for three days.
Esme's mind flashed back to that day as a child when her father beat her up for uprooting his tomatoes and potatoes. She remembered how she cried and slept in the rain after pleading with the plants in the garden to grow back.
The look on her father's face was priceless when he saw his garden fully blossoming the following morning. She didn't have any logical explanations for why that happened because there weren’tany.
Esme… Your eyes.
The memory of her encounter with Erin streaked through her mind. She was angry that day as well, and maybe that was why her eyes glowed. She remembered feeling the same sting before Erin had spoken.
If she was truly a witch, then that would explain why she heard all those whispers when Asher was driving them into the Ghostbound lands. No wonder he couldn't hear the voices. Perhaps they must have sensed her presence and were trying to reach out.
It would also explain why she was able to feel the pain and hurt of all those dead witches. But what about the strange dreams and the strange woman?
All of these thoughts swirled in her head while Asher was still on the phone with whoever he was reaching out to.
“Okay. We'll be expecting you as soon as possible. Thank you, Juniper.” He hung up the phone and sighed with a hand on his waist.
Juniper? That's the name of the woman I hugged at the wedding when Ifelt something like a spark. Wait, didn't I see her eyes turn purple for a second there?
“We'll get to the bottom of this.” He walked over to her, “I promise.”

The wait for Juniper's arrival was the longest she'd ever experienced. It was like time had refused to move—like it just decided to stand still.
It was torture, having to sit silently while waiting for answers to arrive. Asher had tried to engage her in conversations, but it wasn't working. Her mind was too preoccupied to focus on anything.
Unknowingly, she chewed on her nails as she nervously paced back and forth in the room.
“Would you pleasecalm down?” He asked politely.
“I'm trying. I swear to God I'm trying,” she replied without pausing in her tracks.
He got off the chair and walked over to her. Her body immediately relaxed as he held her hands. It was like a whirlwind of relief had blown across her face.
“You'll be alright.” He gently raised her chin and looked into her eyes. “We'll be alright.”
Asher kissed her forehead and then her lips before drawing her to himself, where she rested in his warm embrace.
It wasn't long after that Juniper finally showed up.
He looked out the window and said to her,“They're here,”
Esme quickly rushed over there and saw a car pulling over in the compound. She watched as the driver stepped out and recognized him as one of Asher's friends from the wedding. The woman whostepped out from the front passenger seat was Juniper.
The couple from downstairs looked up and smiled at them as Elder William and some others rushed to welcome them.
She turned to Asher with a fast-beating heart, and he smiled.“We're finally getting some answers.”
There was a knock on the door, and Asher opened it.
“Juniper.” He grinned at her.
“Hey, Asher.” She replied.
“Hey, man.” Rowan reached out, and the two men shook hands
“Come on in.” He opened the door wider and welcomed them inside.
