“What?” Asher's brows rose reflexively.
“Everything on the farm has grown…I didn't say that they're growing… They have grown. All of them!” He emphasized the last statement.
Asher's heart leaped for joy, and a smile brightened his face.
“Don't tease me, Elder William,” he jokingly warned, even though he knew that the Elder was not one to play silly pranks, especially not one as heavy as this.
“Come see for yourself.”
They both rushed out of the office and headed straight for the farm where almost all the villagers had gathered, marveling at the impossible sight they were beholding him.
“Excuse me, coming through!” Elder William declared, and the crowd parted as they walked toward the entrance.
Asher stood frozen as he saw how mature and ready for harvest the crops had become. The farm was flourishing better than he had ever imagined.
Since Esme's arrival, the green on the land had been gradually growing back, but this… This was next level. He was here yesterday together with his bride. Why was the farm suddenly thriving overnight? The speed at which these plants had grown was very alarming, strange, and mysterious.
He could understand and grasp the idea of the plants sprouting out in weird places, but the farm producing this much harvest overnight was much more difficult to take in.
The only difference between the farm and the other places was that Esme actually sang to these plants yesterday.
He ran his fingers through his hair and walked into the farm for further verification. Asher was shocked to his bones. He was speechless.
The crops were healthy. In fact, they had never been healthier since they took over the land. The leaves were broad and thick, the fruits were large and ripe, and so were the vegetables.
“This is a miracle!”someone cried out with tears of joy from the crowd.
“Does this mean the curse has been lifted?” a man asked from the crowd, and soon, noisy murmurs began to rise from the others.
“It's the Alpha's wife!”a woman said in a raised voice. “She's brought us good luck!”
“Yeah!”a couple of others concurred.
Asher bent over and took a handful of dirt in his palm.It was no longer coarse or black; it was rich and obviously highly nutritional.
Asher had never felt this glad and relieved before. He felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off him.His breath was suddenly lighter than before, and his mind experienced a moment of peace.
How was this possible? Was she indeed a green thumb? It was as he thought—Esme was special and mysterious.
Now, his suspicion about her being more than just a human girl was growing stronger. He plucked an apple from the tree and took a bite. Asher shut his eyes as he pleasurably munched on it.
He turned to Elder William and threw the bitten fruit to him. He caught it and took a bite as well.
“And…?” someone from the crowd asked in anticipation.
“And it's ripe!” He chuckled. “This is the sweetest apple I've ever tasted!”
They cheered and rushed onto the farm, helping themselves towhatever they needed.
Asher dusted his palms and joined Elder William to stand and watch the Pack go crazy in excitement as they stormed the farm.
“Looks like you were right after all,” Asher said to him.
“I'm afraid you're going to have to be a little bit more specific than that. I've been right about so many things, you know.” Elder William smiled at him.
“You were right when you said that I should be more optimistic and not pessimistic about this problem.” He sighed, trying to control his joy. “You were also right when you said that it was fate that brought Esme and me together.”
Elder William smiled. “Why do I feel like there's something you want to add?”
