“On Asher's big day? I don't think so.”
They laughed.
“He'd kill you with his bare hands.” Articus chipped.
“No… All I have to do is take the charms off him and let the curse of the land run its course.” Asher smiled and took a couple of steps back before Callahan would think of hitting him.
They laughed.
“Ha-ha. Really funny.” The sarcasm in his voice was not at all subtle.
“Just look at her,” Asher said, and they followed his gaze to his bride.
They all looked at her and saw just how happy she was.
“How did you find her? What did you say to convince her to follow you back here?” Callahan asked him.
“Elder William said it was fate that made our paths cross.” He turned to them. “He thinks I didn't meet her by accident.”
“That's sweet. But what exactly did you say to her?” Callahan persisted, eager to know the details.
“That's the thing, Cal. I didn't say anything special.” He sighed. “It's kind of hard to explain. All I know is that I went to her town, and I was drawn to her angelic voice. And the rest is history.” He drank out of his bottle.
“Wait. That's it? Where's the drama? I want details, Asher,” Callahan joked, although he wouldn't have minded a more detailed story.
“We're just glad that you finally found your mate.” Articus patted his shoulder.
“Yeah, it was about time,” Rowan said.
“Congratulations once again, man.” Callahan beamed at him.
“Thank you.”
“You still owe me the complete version of this story, though,” he added, and they laughed.
“Cheers to a good married life.” Articus raised his bottle.
“Cheers!” They did the same and gulped down the remaining contents of their bottles.
Asher smiled as he glanced at the portrait of them on their wedding day before trying to get out of bed and take a shower.

By the time he came down for breakfast, his wife was already at the table but hadn't touched her food yet. She was waiting for him.
The table was decorated like those of a fancy restaurant, with different dishes and delicacies set atop it.
“Good morning,” he greeted her with his usual charming smile.
“Morning,” she replied, grinning.
Esme looked so beautiful this morning that he couldn't stop looking at her. She was glowing, her face, radiating under the chandelier lights.
He saw the excitement in her eyes as they sat in opposite chairs at the table.
“Were you waiting for me?” he asked.
She nodded with a faint smile.
