“There’s a lot of negative energy around here,” she said.

He turned to her. “You can feel it, the energy?”

She nodded. “They're hurting.” Her head was pounding, and the goosebumps were growing worse. “They're really hurting.” She winced at the pain in her head.

“You can tell?” he asked, surprised.

She sighed and lifted her head as the whispers gradually faded. “What happened here?”

“This is where the witches were buried. Their blood had cursed this land for ages.”

He looked at her, probably wondering what was going on in her head.

“Before your arrival, everything here and everywhere else on this land was either dead or dying.”

“What are you saying?” she asked, a little jumpy.

He stared at her without saying a word.

“Are you saying that I… I caused the plants to grow?” she asked, looking right at him.

“I'm not entirely sure just yet,” came the reply, “But I do know that this new development is a good sign and that it all revolves around you.”

“Me?” she asked, bewildered. “Why?”

“Maybe it has to do with your human blood, as the elders said,” he replied to her. “Come. Follow me.”

He took her to a field and showed her the other places where plants were growing as well.

“All of this happened in less than twenty-four hours since you came with me.”

She admired the field with the tiny flowers that carpeted most part of it, while some partswere still barren.

He turned to her and said, “I know how it sounds, and I also know that it's a lot to take in.”

He wasn't wrong. It was indeed a lot to take in.

“Can you take me back now?” she asked him, feeling tired from everything she'd just learned. “I need to take a shower and rest.”

“Sure,” he replied and led the way.

They returned to the house and halted before the building as Elder William walked up to them with a smile.

“Hi, Esme,” he greeted with a welcoming smile. “I apologize for the way we first met.”

She had not met this man before, so why would he say that they had?

He was old, probably one of the Elders Asher talked about since he had charms around his neck and he was dressed in a cloak made out of wolf fur.

Wait a minute. It clicked in her head.

“Your Elder William,” she stated with certainty.

He grinned. “She's smart. I like her,” he said to Asher.

“Do you have it?” Asher asked.

“Of course.” Elder William revealed some beaded charms.
