Chapter 6 - Esme
A loud thunder rumbled in the red sky as lightning streaked through the dark clouds. The fog had enveloped the forest. The trees were withering, the plants were shrinking, and the soil was black.
Esme stood between towering trees as she looked around the weird and strange environment. She was clothed in a green garment with a crown of richly blossoming flowers around her head.
As she walked through the forest with her arms spread wide, every plant she passed by and every tree that was dying or that had already died began to bloom and grow.
The soil beneath her bare feet started to change; it was gradually turning fertile, producing all manner of crops.
A beautiful smile brightened her face as she marveled at the sight of the once-dead forest now full of life with thick trees and mature crops ready for harvest.
The air was filled with the sweet fragrance of several species of flowers, and she shut her eyes, breathing in the pleasurable scent.
Above, the sky had turned blue, and the clouds had given way to the sun. Birds were chirping in trees, and smaller reptiles and rodents were scurrying off into the bushes and onto tree barks.
“Esme…”
A tender feminine voice called out her name with an eerie whisper. She looked around, but she was the only one standing there.
The voice called again, this time a bit louder but with the same eeriness. It came from no particular direction. Esme lifted her head and saw a giant tree standing taller than all the others. It had white leaves with broad branches that formed a canopy.
She admired the tree, but the sound didn’t seem to be coming from that location. She looked around and still couldn't pinpoint the exact location of the sound.
Esme drew in a deep breath and shut her eyes, focusing all her attention on the sound of the woman's voice.
The moment she opened her green eyes, they glowed. In that instant, the entire forest whooshed past her in a rapid blur of movement, and she found herself standing before a clearing of the forest.
Out of a thick blanket of fog, a figure emerged, clothed in a white garment. The figure had shining eyes and a smile as bright as the sun.
She was so beautiful. Her skin was soft, her fingers were sparkling, and the air around her was cold.
“My child…” She stretched out a hand toward Esme, and before the latter could reach out to touch her, a powerful wind blew across them.
The force, like a tornado, sucked Esme away from the woman who was still calling out to her. She traveled through a vacuum, screaming at the top of her lungs, and soon, utter darkness enveloped her.

Esme awoke suddenly, panting heavily. She reflexively squirmed out of Asher's hold, but he wouldn't let go of her.
“Hey, hey…” he said with a tender voice as he tried to catch her eyes. “It's okay, it's okay.” He finally caught those green eyes, magnetizing them to his. “You're okay. It was just a dream.”
She was calmer now and had better control of her breath. He looked handsome while sitting next to her on that bed. His black eyes squinted as he smiled faintly.
He gently let go of her hands, and she adjusted to lean her back against the wall.
“That must have been some nightmare you were having,” he said to her.
Bewildered, she looked around the room. “How…how did I get here?”
“Well…” he said, trying not to laugh at her. “You passed out.”
“I passed out?” She suddenly remembered the wolf, and he could see the fear in her expression. “Do you guys own wolves as pets? Because everyone but me seemed to be cool with the wild animal.”
He laughed lightly. “I'm sure Elder William would find that offensive, but what can I say?”
“Was it his pet?” She frowned, “Please tell him to keep it chained next time.”
“I'll do that,” He smiled.
