“Interesting combo,” I mutter.
“Petal can provide you with sexy candles.”
Petal winks at me. “Let me know what you prefer – massage candles or wax play.”
“I think I’m good.” And officially scared of an elderly woman but I’m admitting to nothing.
“Clove owns the café – Clove’s Coffee Corner,” Sage continues her introductions.
Clove nods to my stomach. “Don’t you worry, I have decaf coffee and plenty of herbal teas as well.”
“And, last but not least, there’s Cayenne. She used to own the yoga studio.”
“But I can still do the splits. Let me show you.” Cayenne walks toward the middle of the room.
“I believe you!” I shout before she hurts herself.
“What are you doing here?” Jett’s voice drips with suspicion.
I elbow him. “Be polite.” I motion toward the living room. “Would you like to sit down? I can make coffee.”
“You’re not having more coffee,” Jett insists.
“And here I thought you enjoyed having your balls where they are. Obviously, I was wrong.”
He pales and moves a hand to cover his crotch.
Petal claps. “Oh, this is going to be my favorite project.”
Sage rolls her eyes. “They’re all her favorite projects.”
“What project?” I ask. “Are you referring to the baby? Are you midwives?”
Jett crosses his arms over his chest and glares at the women. “I believe they’re referring to their desire to matchmake me.”
They want to match Jett? My stomach sours at the idea of him with another woman. I’d have to find somewhere else to live. No way could I live in the same house as him while he parades his girlfriend in front of me.
“But they know damn well I’m not interested in having a partner,” he continues.
My jealousy disappears. Jett doesn’t want a partner. He doesn’t want a family. He doesn’t want Little Bean. Not in the way he deserves to be wanted. I place a hand over my belly.
“Why’d you get Aurora pregnant if you don’t want a partner?” Cayenne asks.
Jett’s face turns bright red and I have to bite my tongue before I laugh at his embarrassment.
“It was a…” He clears his throat. “Her pregnancy wasn’t intended.”
I smile at him. I don’t want the baby to think he was an accident. Accident doesn’t sound very nice. Unintended sounds somewhat better. Happy circumstance is how I refer to my surprise pregnancy.
“You have to admit it’s the perfect opportunity for you to become a couple. Having a baby together. Raising a child together,” Sage says.
I would love to be a couple with Jett. I would love to raise this child together. But it’s not going to happen. Jett has made it perfectly clear he doesn’t want me.
Oh, he wants me in his bed. But nothing more. And no matter how much I’m tempted to climb his naked body and use it in the million different ways I imagine every night, I won’t.
I won’t complicate the situation further by having sex with him again. Things got out of hand the other night. I had a weak moment. But I’ve fortified my walls since then. I won’t let him tempt me again. I know better.
Jett wraps an arm around my shoulders and brings me near. “Whatever happens between Aurora and me is private. It’s not fodder for your gossip or a reason to start a bet.”
