“You never know who lurks in the shadows, Elise,” I say, my voice low. I can feel her body tense at my words, her back going straight, and I push my chest against her a little more. Christ, she fits against me like a goddamn glove.

“What are you doing?” she asks, still whispering.

I smirk at her question. “Warning you about the dangers of the dark.”

“I need to get back to work,” she says abruptly as she pushes herself back against me more, trying to move away, but all she does is push her arse against my dick, and I groan deep in my throat, my hands still on her hips, holding her in place.

“Room twenty-nine in thirty minutes,” I say before I let go and step back from her, my hands already itching to be back where they were a few seconds ago, but preferably on her bare skin rather than her fully clothed self.

She whirls around with her eyes wide. “I can’t do that, I’m working.”

“And I’m a paying guest that needs room service,” I tell her.

“But… but…”

“But nothing, Elise. Thirty minutes, and don’t keep me waiting.” With that, I turn and walk away, confident enough to know that she’ll come.

Chapter Nine

ELISE

What the hell was all that about? What bizarre universe am I in?

A gorgeous guy is showing me attention, albeit a very small amount, but still, he’s making me feel… awkward, uncomfortable, and worst of all, desired, like he wants me in ways he’ll never be able to have me. I don’t know how he’s managing it, but I’m pretty sure he’s good at getting women into bed, if the condoms on the nightstand the last two times I’ve cleaned his room are anything to go by.

He's older than me, for sure, and he’s definitely so far out of my league that it’s laughable. I don’t even know the guy’s name. And let’s not forget the fact that I am fucking married, even if I can’t stand my husband.

There is no way I’m going to his room in thirty minutes.

No way at all.

Chapter Ten

DORIEN

Thirty minutes.

That’s what I told her. And she hasn’t shown up, but I tell myself that she’ll be here any second now. And if for some reason she isn’t, then I’ll go and fucking find her.

Chapter Eleven

ELISE

The party finally comes to an end at half twelve, and the last guest leaves five minutes later. I was on pins as the night went on, expecting the mystery guy to show up and rat me out for not going to his room, like some kind of booty call—which I guess is what he wanted. I may think he’s gorgeous, but there is no way I want to be another notch on his bedpost, it’s not something I would do, and that would apply even if I wasn’t married… I think.

I throw my hands in the air as my mind spins with questions, doubts, and ridiculous answers.

“You did good tonight, Elise,” I hear Hayley say as she enters the room, looking just as perfectly put together as she did at the start of the night. Meanwhile, I probably look as frazzled as I feel, the tiredness creeping over me now that the night has ended.

“Here,” she says as she stops in front of me and thrusts me a key card. “Room number fifteen is yours until the start of your shift tomorrow morning at eight.”

I take the key card and refrain from groaning at the thought of how knackered I’ll be all day tomorrow. Dead on my feet is what I’ll be.

“I trust that you’ll have all of this cleared up before you retire to your room?” she questions, but we both know it’s not really a question at all.

“Yes,” I tell her, and she gives me a satisfied nod in return.

“Your maid’s outfit is in the bathroom, ready for you to change into, and you can make sure my clothes are taken to the laundry room and cleaned tomorrow,” she orders.
