?“Get out of my head,” she yelled, standing up. He immediately dropped the connection.
?She walked back and forth in front of him. She could rip is his head off right now and not think twice about it; she was so hurt and betrayed.
?“You used me. You don't care about anything but yourself. And me, I'm such an idiot, I fell for it. Poor Marie wanted to be loved so much that she had to fall for the first guy who looks her way.” she stopped pacing and bore into him. “Get out!” she screamed.
?He got up and walked to the door. Before he opened it, he turned back, “Marie, I....”
?“GET OUT NOW,” she repeated then she caught fire. Her whole body was in flames.
?Marie stood in the middle of the blaze snarling, hostile eyes and hair flying around her wildly. As she breathed in and out, the flames mimicked her, getting larger every time. She moved slowly, her face despondent.
?She could feel Brenton trying to reach out to her mentally, but the energy around her was too strong. She couldn't reign it in. It was getting out of control, but she couldn't stop it. She felt paralyzed within the flames.
?Her uncle came down the hall in long strides and reached the door to peer inside. He pulled Brenton behind him and stepped forward. He held his hands up like he was waving a white flag. She stared him down, agony coursing through her. She wanted to let go, but she didn't know how.
?“Marie, listen to the sound of my voice,” her uncle said. “Focus on me and my voice. You need to calm down before you burn our house down. You've never used your power at this capacity; so right now its like a wildfire, but once you learn how to use it, this will be easier.”
?His voice calmed her down and she could feel the anger being released from her body. She kept breathing deeply and listening to him talk.
?It finally worked, she snapped back and looked around frantically before settling on him. She felt dizzy and her insides wanted to come out. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head and Brenton ran to catch her before she fell and passed out.
Chapter Nineteen
Brenton
Brenton knew he was on the world's dumbest dudes list. He needed to tell her, she was going to find out either way, but why did he wait until now? She wanted to kill him. He didn't need to read her mind to figure that out. She literally wanted to rip his head off.
?Now, she's resting from the meltdown she just had, something else he caused and all he wanted to do was be close to her. He couldn't leave even though it was probably best that he did. She would go ballistic when she woke up and found him there, but he didn't care. He wanted to make sure she was okay.
?He told her the truth, even though it was late; that has to account for something. He never meant to hurt her. He didn't intend on falling in love with her either, but both happened and he needed to figure out how to fix it.
?He wanted to explain to her about how lost he was until he found her. Not because he needed the connection, but because he wanted someone to talk to. Another person who knew him inside and out. He wanted what the other angels had with their counterpart.
?He wanted to tell her how he fantasized about them being some sort of cheesy superhero team, going around the world fighting crime. They wouldn't wear the corny outfits, but they would do good with the powers they were given.
?That was all he could think about at first, but after he met Marie, all those thoughts faded and were replaced by ones of just being with her. Even though he knew it was wrong, she was his world now, apart of him.
?He was never leaving her. It didn't matter if she didn't want him around, he wouldn't go. At this point, having a target on his back was the least of his worries. He just wanted Marie to understand how sorry he was and how he would spend the rest of his life making it up to her. Whatever she wanted, he would do.
?He knelt next to her bed, willing her to wake up, but all he heard was soft breathing. He caressed her face. His finger trailed from the star birthmark all the way down to her chin. She was so beautiful. His heart ached.
?“I can't help it, I'm so in love with you Marie,” he whispered close to her ear. “I'm so sorry I was an idiot, please forgive me, please. I'm nothing without you. You have to know that. Nothing else will matter if you're not with me. Please wake up and forgive me.”
?He held her hand and laid his head on the corner of the bed.
?“You are an idiot , but I still love you,” she spoke in his mind.
?Brenton lifted up and was looking into her eyes. Her gorgeous, big brown eyes.
?“Marie, I'm so glad you're awake,” he said, shifting his body to get completely on his knees.
?“Yeah, but my body is so sore.”
?“I am so sorry about that. I shouldn't have said anything, but you needed to know everything and...” he was rambling.
?She put her finger on his lips, “Shh. I know and I forgive you.”
?“You're not mad?”
