Nixon
Small town. On my way to my parents’ house to pick up Gordie.
Kenzie
Have fun. I just had coffee with Jules, and I’m having dinner with the family tomorrow night.
Nixon
Mom would have all five of us at her house for dinner every night if she thought she could.
Kenzie
Jules too.
Nixon
Are you on call this weekend?
Kenzie
Technically, I shouldn’t be, but I told someone I’d cover them tonight.
Nixon
Woman. You work more than anyone I’ve ever known.
Kenzie
Observant.
Nixon
A man of many talents.
Kenzie
I’m not going to argue with that.
Nixon
I’ve got plenty you haven’t seen yet.
Kenzie
I’ll keep that in mind.
Nixon
Have a good day, Mac.
Kenzie
You too, Nix.
Something about texting with Mac has me smiling like I’ve just won a game instead of sparring with this beautiful woman.
I drive past my mom’s ballet studio and see the lights on in there, so I’m not surprised when I get to their house and Dad’s truck is the only one in the driveway. I knock on the door and announce myself before I go in. We’ve all heard the story of my uncle walking in on Grandpa and Grandma having sex on the table when he was in college, and I’m pretty sure it scarred each and every one of my cousins and me. Just because Mom’s studio lights were on doesn’t mean I don’t have to be careful.
