“I’ll tell you what…” He crosses his arms. “If he takes this holiday in stride, I might consider cutting him some slack. We’ll know soon enough if he has what it takes to put up with your crazy.”

“I’m gonna hold you to that,” I say. I take a victory sip from the coffee and recoil at the altered taste. “You gave me decaf?”

“Hey, you’ll be thanking me when your baby is born at a normal birth weight,” he says.

“I’m not even preg—” I scoff and turn away. “Never mind.”

He grins. “Bye, big sister.”

“Bye.”I halt and look at Monica. “Actually, yeah. I’ll take a cookie.”

She tosses one in a bag for me. “Have a nice day!” she says. “Happy Halloween!”

“Thanks. You, too.”

I fire another fast glare at Vincent’s smirk before stomping out with my cookie.
