I fix her bottle carefully and shake it up, making my way back up the stairs to drop it off to Ronny.
I stop at the door at the sight of Ronny holding baby Madeline, rubbing her cheek. I never knew how much he wanted to be a daddy until now.
He was made for this.
He looks like he is in complete bliss, my heart warms and I’m hit with a wave of happiness. This is what dreams are made of.
This angel was meant to be in our lives, it was fate because she was not meant to be one of my cases but that very moment changed our lives.
I love Ronny so much, but seeing him with this baby makes me love him even more. He looks up at me and smiles, a blissful look on his face, and I know it matches mine.
“Here we go.” I hand it to him, and he takes the bottle and rubs the teat gently across her lips. Madeline latches on instantly.
Ronny settles in the chair and starts to rock. I decide to prefill the bottles with water and set them next to the bed, so it will be easier to reach them tonight, along with diapers, wipes, her ointment, and extra clothes.
It takes me multiple trips but I get everything set up, and I turn around to go back to Ronny when he walks in the doorway holding her. “She fell asleep.” He chuckles and hands me the empty bottle.
He sets her on the bed and we both work to swaddle her tightly. “This won’t hurt her?” he asks me, and I think on it.
“I think they love this, but maybe we should google it.”
He gets his phone out, his fingers flying searching it up, then he nods to himself. “This is good for her, it helps them with the startle reflex or some shit like that.” At that, we finish wrapping her up in the blanket.
Her little face is peeking out, her mouth slightly open. Her lips are the color of roses, shaped like a heart. She is beautiful. Her skin is the color of Ronny’s, a lovely light brown, so I’m assuming that her biological father is white.
Her hair is dark, and her eyes are similar to Ronny’s but hers have a greener tint to them.
Holy shit, my dad is going to crap his pants.
“I swear it’s not even late, but I’m drained.”
He chuckles and pulls me into a hug. I bury my face into his chest, holding him back tightly. God, I never knew how much I needed this hug.
“It breaks my heart that this precious girl was in a dog bed, Ronny. Your aunt didn’t have any supplies for her. What if she was smothered to death in that bed?” My breath hitches at that. I want to kill his aunt for what she has done.
“Fuck, I hate my biological family members,” he hisses out softly so he doesn’t wake her. “Let’s go get something to eat, baby,” he tells me, and I look over at Madeline once more before we walk down the stairs to the kitchen.
“Christopher brought food and put it in the refrigerator for us to heat up.”
My heart warms. “You have an amazing family.” I love all of them. Even when Ronny was away, they made sure they were a huge part of my life.
“Your mother is going to die,” I suddenly tell him, and his eyes widen, almost dropping the food on the floor.
“She is.” He laughs. I love the sound of his laugh, the way his whole face lights up.
He is beautiful.
“Fuck, we are parents.” It hits me like a tidal wave again, our whole entire lives have completely changed.
We will be raising this little girl, and she will be going to school one day. Ronny looks off to the side of the kitchen, staring into space like it’s hitting him hard also.
I bust out laughing at the craziness of it all. “You know, when we planned to have a baby, I never imagined that it would be this quick.” I wink.
He scoots the food over, making his way to me with a determined look on his face. “I still plan to plant one in you.” His voice is husky, his hand going to my flat stomach. “Seeing you with Madeline?” He bites his lip. “It’s the sexiest thing I have ever seen.”
My hands go to his hips, stopping myself from pulling him out of his pants. “Seeing you hold her, care for her? I have never been more turned on in my life.”
He growls, fisting my hair slightly, tugging on the strands to tilt my head back. “Let me get you fed because I’m craving for some sweet dessert.”
