She shakes her head and looks at Tyler.
“She is staying with me from now fucking on.” His voice is deep with anger.
Vanessa pushes her hair out of her face, her hands shaking badly. “He wanted money and I didn’t have any cash on me,” she whispers, looking down at the rug.
Tyler grinds his jaws together, his head turned away from her so she doesn’t see. I hate her father. He is a mean fucker who has done nothing but make her life a living hell. “He will never bother you again, we will make sure of it.”
She smiles at me weakly. She is the most humble and sweetest person I have ever met. She is the kind of person who would take off her shoes and give them to a homeless person. I have seen it with my own eyes. To see this happen to her is heartbreaking.
I get off the couch, bend down, and hug her gently. “I will get your revenge,” I whisper in her ear and she nods, squeezing my hand. Liam intertwines his fingers with mine, and we walk out to the truck and Liam helps me inside. I look through the window of Vanessa’s house to see her crying into Tyler’s chest. It breaks my heart all over again.
Liam gets in the truck and looks through the window with me. “I don’t understand how a man can put his hands on a woman, let alone his own daughter.” Liam shakes his head. “Baby, there are some fucked-up people in this world who have no heart.”
He starts the truck and leaves for the club.
“I am going to have some fun.” I grin into the darkness. I am not the most violent person, but I am very protective of those I care about.
“He will get his, Baby.”
Yes, he will.
Paisley
The fucker is in the bar the club owns, drinking and having the best time of his life. The girls and I walk over to him.
The guys did not let us go alone, but they are hanging back. It’s a just in case thing, but they won’t be needed.
“Hey,” I say to Vanessa’s dad.
He turns around, and his eyes light up at the sight of me. Vomit crawls up the back of my throat. “Well, aren’t you pretty.”
I smile at him and slip on my steel knuckles. “Yeah? You think so?”
He licks his lips, nodding.
“Well, I don’t think you’re pretty, not one bit. Maybe I can help you.”
His eyes widen in confusion right before I slam my fist right into his mouth. His head swings back. He holds his mouth, finally noticing the rest of the girls. “Who the fuck are you, all of you?”
“Your worst fucking nightmare. Vanessa is the property of the Devil Souls, and this is your punishment,” I inform him as Shaylin brings her bat down on his knee, grinning ear-to-ear. The sound of the bone breaking radiates through the room. She is Smiley’s daughter, that is for sure.
Jean laughs and Tases the fucker right between the legs. His face reddens, veins sticking out on the side of his neck, before he hits the floor, screaming.
Jean laughs loudly and high fives all the girls. I join in, still pissed off that this happened to Vanessa. It makes me sick that someone thinks they can put their hands on a woman, let alone their child. I don’t understand, I will never understand, why anyone would hurt someone they are supposed to care about. The thought of saying anything mean to Liam breaks my heart.
I stare down at the man who, hours before, beat his daughter badly because she didn’t give him money. He is a waste of space.
I hear the guys laughing behind us, watching in pure delight. These are guys you don’t want to fuck with. I learned that from an early age. But never once have they raised their voices to me or been mean to me; they are my family. They have protected me and babysat me and my best friends. We had sleepovers. The MC president, Kyle, had tea parties with me. He would kill me if I told anyone that though. I give Kyle a smile, which he returns. He is a mean fucker, that is for sure, but I have seen his soft side. A soft side that many haven’t seen. Butcher took me to the park and played Barbies with me. Now all of these men have families of their own, and I know they are the best.
Especially my dad; he is the best dad. I may not have had a mom, but he filled the role as best he could. When I started my period and was scared out of my mind, he bought me what I needed, dried my tears, and babied me.
When I was sick, he slept on the couch with me, holding me all night long just in case I needed him. He taught me how to ride a bike and shoot a gun, and he is my best friend. I hate that he was so torn up because of Liam, but I also know that, deep down, he likes Liam.
“I am sorry!” Vanessa’s dad cries out. I tear my gaze from my dad, who is staring right back at me.
I bend down, looking Vanessa’s dad right in the face. “Sorry doesn’t mean anything, are you sorry we are hurting you or that you hurt your daughter?”
He stares at me, anger replacing his fear, and he sits up quickly and wraps his hand around my throat. His fingers squeeze hard, and I grip his forearm, trying to tear his hand away. Arms band around my waist and Liam is there, punching the guy hard in the face.
