“Yeah? You want to watch?”
“Uh…uh…”
He burst out laughing at the way Bailey’s mouth gaped like a fish at the very idea. “Just kidding, Bay.”
His calf cramped and he winced. He really needed to do something about this or it was going to fuck with his game tomorrow. “But I am going to go jump in the tub and use those bath salts you packed for me.”
“Good.”
“Do me a favor?”
“Of course.”
“Sleep in my bed till I get home.”
Bailey’s forehead wrinkled with confusion. “Why?”
“I just want you to.”
“Gonzo?” Bailey pressed.
He sat up and rubbed the back of his neck. “I don’t know, Bay, I can’t be there with you, but I just like the idea of you sleeping in my bed even when I’m not there.”
“Okay.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool.” He bobbed his head up and down. “Night, Bay. I’ll call you tomorrow after the game.”
“I’ll be here. Now go take care of yourself.”
He snickered at the double entendre. “I’ll take care of myself alright.” He filled his voice with all the innuendo he could muster.
Bailey sighed. “Oh god, that wasn’t what I meant and you know it. Look after your calf, you perv.”
“I’m a good multi-tasker,” he teased.
The corner of her mouth tilted up as she bit back a smirk. “Goodnight, Gonzo.”
“Night, Bay.”
He disconnected the call and dropped his arm over his eyes. Sleep in my bed? Where the hell had that come from? The idea had come out of nowhere, but the second it popped into his head, he knew he wanted it. Not just while he was away, but always. Fuck, he was gone over her. Was this how his friends felt when they’d met their women?
He pushed off the mattress. Whatever the hell it was, he wouldn’t figure it out tonight.
Chapter 19
The music pumped through the speakers in the living room as she loaded the dishwasher. Her watch buzzed, letting her know she had an incoming call. Howard Marx’s name flashed on the screen of her watch and she scrambled to grab the stereo remote and her phone before her new boss hung up.
Bailey swiped the screen to answer the phone. “Hello.”
“Could I speak to Bailey, please?”
“This is.”
“Bailey, this is Howard Marx.
