“Am I in trouble when I get home?” I grin.
“I might hurt you. I mean—it’s been a while, you know. A girl has needs.”
We are both laughing again when I gently pull her into my arms.
“I really love you, Darya. To the end of the universe and back again.”
“I really love you, Stef. Through all the stars and galaxies out there.”
“I thought I told you guys you weren’t allowed to be cuddling on the bed like this,” the doctor's loud voice booms into the room. He is smiling as he walks towards us.
“Sorry, doc.” We both grin like kids who were caught in the act and Darya slides off the bed.
“Well, I guess I can assume you are feeling a lot better and I can send you home, then?”
“I would love to go home.” I nod enthusiastically.
“Your beautiful wife has assured me that she will make sure you remain on bedrest for another week. The physiotherapist will make regular visits to your home. And then next week I want you to start slowly getting back to normal life. But be realistic about it, okay? It’s going to be at least a month before you will be feeling strong again.”
“I don’t mind being stuck at home for a while. I have someone there with me.” I take Darya’s hand in mine.
“Alright, then, let’s get you signed out. I’m going to do a quick check and have the nurse put on some fresh bandages—Darya, she already showed you how to clean the wound, right?”
“She did, yes.” Darya nods.
“Good stuff. Let’s get you out of here, then.”
Chapter 28 - Darya
It’s been a year since I took the position working in Stefano’s company as a junior client liaison. I have been working my ass off day and night to prove to him that I am the perfect person for this job.
Now, I am sitting nervously outside the boardroom, waiting to be called in so that I can hear if I am the one who is up for promotion today or not.
I really want this new position. I want to prove that no matter how good Reina was at her job, I am going to be a hundred times better.
After Stef came home from the hospital, our relationship just kept getting stronger. He started opening up to me more and more, and we learned to communicate in all the right ways. Our love life and sex life skyrocketed, and honestly, I don’t think I could ever be happier.
My life is absolutely amazing. It is more than I could ever have dreamed of.
One of the board members sticks their head out of the meeting room and says, “Ms. Napoli, you can come in now, we are ready for you.”
I stand up, smiling professionally.
I walk into the boardroom and nod at my brothers and my husband, then take my seat opposite them to hear the verdict on my progress.
“Darya, we aren’t going to waste your time or ours, the bottom line is that you have blown our minds. You have exceeded our expectations in every way, and we believe that you will be the best person for this position. We would like to promote you to operations manager and head of the team for client liaison. With it you will get a salary increase and better benefits.”
The man speaking is the HR manager, and when he is done, he slides a folder over to me.
“The details of your new package are in there.” Stefano grins proudly.
I really wanted to stay professional in every aspect and be graceful about my reaction if I did get this position, but I am just so freaking happy right now that I am practically on the verge of tears.
I rush around the table and hug Stefano tightly as my brothers each say congratulations and laugh at my reaction.
“Do you have any questions?” the HR manager asks me.
“I don’t. I’ll read the new contact and get back to you if I do. Thank you.”
