“Holy fuck,” I pant out.
He laughs lightly, and he kisses me hard before pulling back.
“Just don’t let me go. It’ll hurt if you do. After a blood fuck, you have to have closeness. With this being your first one, you won’t be able to lose my touch for at least a day.”
Mmm. That sounds so damn good.
“You okay?” he asks while pulling my bare body closer to his.
“I'm better than okay. I’m completely healed, and it usually takes so much longer. I feel like I’ve just moved into heaven, but I hate that someone just endured that,” I whisper while pointing to the unseen driver most likely scarred for life.
Jase starts laughing, and then he pulls out a pack of contacts before whispering, “You need to put these in.”
Suddenly my breath leaves my lips, and the car slows down. I get sick, terrified to the point of trembling as I catch a reflection in the side glass of my glowing violet eyes. I turn back to his unfazed pale beauties, and I don’t know how to react.
“You know?” I yell in a whisper.
His lips tighten, and then I hear the front door open as Aunt Angelica steps out and pulls her ear buds out of their place.
“He knows. Just put the contacts in,” she sighs, and I bury my head in Jase’s chest.
I don’t know what is overwhelming me more right now. The fact my aunt bore witness to my first blood fuck, or the fact he knows I’m the descendent of an emergent.
He could have me killed.
“Aria, listen to me,” he says while pulling my face in front of his, and I cover him up a little better with the blanket as I try to look away from his gaze.
“Baby, I’m not going to let anything at all happen to you… ever,” he murmurs so sincerely, protectiveness rattling through his tone, and he looks to my aunt as she hands us a bag of clothes.
“How did you get here?” I ask, trying not to fall into this dangerous conversation about my lineage.
“I headed out after I heard about the landmine fiasco. I thought we might try tracking the maker, but then I got there during the explosions.”
My mind races back to the fires.
“It was a gifted hybrid. Who has that gift? It was a fire. I swear it had the force of a damn inferno. It was beautiful... hypnotic actually.”
I see Jase almost smile, and he shifts his bare body I’m keeping covered with my shared blanket. I lean up on him, and his hand rubs up and down my back. I could curl up inside him and I still wouldn’t feel close enough right now.
“I don’t know where the fires came from, but I know where this came from,” she says while moving out from in front of the window, and my eyes fall on the ghastly sight.
Jase’s eyes widen, and he jerks on a pair of pants while staying under me. His hands slide around my waist as he scoops me up and holds me to him as we climb out of the car, keeping my bare body cloaked with the blanket.
The ground has been ripped up. Hundreds of trees for miles and miles have been pulled free from their roots and tossed around like a child’s toys. The ground is split as though an earthquake struck… my earthquake. I did this.
“How did I…”
The words can’t even leave my mouth, and Jase’s lips press tighter against my forehead.
“I don’t know. You did this without meaning to, and that’s some serious power,” my aunt sighs. “I can’t even do something like this in my phase three savage.”
I was just fucking.
Jase’s eyes move to my violet ones, and I see concern, worry... but not fear. How can he not be afraid of me right now?
“How did you know?” I ask while trying to get closer.
“Honestly, I’ve known for a while. I didn’t want your mother to be afraid of me though. I didn’t want her thinking I was with you for the wrong reasons. I saw your eyes the day of the fight - the one Rex sent me to.”
