"Where are we going?" Winnie asks me as we head down the highway. I doubt she's been to this side of town very often, so she might not know where we're headed.

Good, I want the location to be a surprise to her.

"Somewhere really nice. Trust me, you'll love it." I wink at her, and she shakes her head while a small smile plays at the corner of her mouth. She seems to be in a better mood than when we left the house.

Winnie leans back in her seat. "Okay, okay. Mr. Mysterious, I'll have to bask in my curiosity until then."

She looks out the window at the trees that speed by. A quick look at the backseat shows a sleepy Luna. I hope she gets all the rest she needs before the excitement begins. She loves to nap when she's in the car.

The park's entrance is like a stop on a quest journey. The huge archway reads a jaunty, welcoming text: Welcome to Fairy Park.

"Oh, my God," Winnie exclaims as we drive into the park. There's a different theme in each section of the park, and the whole vibe screams fairytale come to life.

We pass a couple of fairies who wave their wands at us. I park in the spot I reserved, and I lift Luna out of the car seat.

Her eyes are blinking sleepily awake, and she yawns when she's out of the seat.

Something about the change of atmosphere must have roused her further because, by the time we head to the first stop of the day, which is a princess-themed castle, Luna is wide awake.

At the castle's entrance, we're greeted by guards who bow before the little princess, and they address Winnie and me as king and queen.

That makes Winnie giggle, and the sound is like syrup to my ears.

"Welcome to the castle of wondrous goodness!" An elf bounces towards us the moment we step inside, and he introduces himself as our lovely guide behind these walls.

"Dare I introduce you to some lovely munchable goodies?" He spreads his hands in front of a bouquet of pastries.

Someone dressed like a friendly dwarf approaches us and introduces himself in a voice that seems to be from a couple of centuries ago.

"I am Sir Greenforest, the friendliest dwarf in all of the seven seas, and I welcome you to this mouthwatering feast." He bows very slowly until gray hair touches the tips of his leaflike shoes.

His bushy eyebrows jump up and down like gray caterpillars, and Luna smiles toothily at him.

Then, we move over to the table where there are more servants waiting for us.

"Don't think too much about healthy eating right now, Doc." As if she knew where my mind had wandered, Winnie sidled over to me and whispered under her breath. It sounded like a warning as well.

The last thing we would need was for the people around to hear me dissing the benefits of so much icing on such a tiny cupcake, but it fed into the ambiance of the place.

I had never read of a fairytale character with diabetes, although I'm sure the tooth fairy must have complained a lot about the number of patients coming to meet them.

Then again, I might have much to say, but I'm wise enough to keep my mouth shut.

They're really treating us like royalty, and as we dig into the food, a piper comes in and starts playing the flute.

The sound is entrancing, and I can see Luna bobbing her head to the tune.

Winnie has a sweet smile, and I feel pleased that my girls are having a good time.

A horde of dancers come marching in, and they perform a dance that could be right out of a woodland party.

Their dresses swoosh and swirl around their feet, which stomp cheerily to the airy tune of the flute. The music builds and builds, and it's almost as if we become teleported into another dimension.

I would hate to admit it, but the cakes are the tastiest I have had in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if I was informed that magic was a key ingredient.

The sound of clapping hands dragged me back to the present, and it was the reminder I needed. We were still in the company of strangers.

Winnie joins them in the applause, and Luna is not left out as she smacks her fingers, which are now covered with thick icing, together.
