“I’ll let you two get going, and I’ll give you a call at the end of the week and set up a date.” Gary turned and left. It occurred to them both then that Gary had come there on purpose to see them. He’d tracked them down to tell them his feelings and to assure them of his friendship.

Henry was so happy with the outcome of the visit that he was smiling from ear to ear. He witnessed Terry openly declare their relationship and openly demonstrate his feelings in front of one of his friends. It was one of the most important moments in their relationship. Terry was his mate in every sense of the word.

“Come on, sweetheart, let's go home.” Terry kissed Henry full on the lips in front of everyone and guided him over to the car. “I want to get you home.” He smiled down at Henry as he got him situated in the passenger seat. “Yeah, Terry, let’s go home.” Henry looked up at him with all the love he was feeling showing in his eyes. This was the future he’d dreamed of for so long. He had a friend, a lover, and a mate all rolled into one gorgeously handsome shifter.

The Wolves of Lonepine

PROLOGUE

It was just past three when a large man with coal-black hair and an authoritative attitude walked into the Lonepine Police Office. He introduced himself as Ivan Rand, a Detective with the State Police in Michigan out of Traverse City.

He reached out his hand to Terry, who took it in a loose yet firm grip. The sudden realization that the man sent to town to take custody of Jordan Randall was himself a wolf shifter had Terry raising his brows in shock and surprise.

“You know what I am,” Ivan spoke candidly.

“Yes,” Terry responded. “He doesn’t know?” Terry jerked his head towards the cell at the back of the room that currently held ADA Jordan Randall of Traverse City, Michigan.

“No.” It was just a single word spoken tightly, with his stare speaking volumes about his relationship with Randall.

Terry indicated a chair in front of his desk for him to sit down. “Have a bit of paperwork for you. When you’re finished, I will have one of the officers take you to see the Mayor. I’m sure he would be happy to put you up for the night.” Terry was confident that Ivan understood Pack dynamics, and the request to meet the Mayor and stay at the Pack House was not just a simple request. As an outside wolf in Lonepine territory, he would have to present himself to the Alpha. Ivan nodded his understanding and sat down.

“How long will you be staying?” Terry asked as he shuffled through his desk and came up with the transfer paperwork.

Ivan leaned back in his seat and regarded the officer intently, weighing and measuring him and his possible place in the pack before answering his question. “I will probably be here no more than two days, whatever it takes to complete the transfer and get a flight out with the prisoner.” Ivan then glanced around the room speculatively. “I didn’t realize there was a pack in this area.” He spoke softly so only Terry could hear him.

Terry nodded. “We’ve been in this area for about hundred and fifty years. Our Alpha is Lance Hendricks. He recently mated Ronan James.” With that said, Ivan instantly smiled, and a soft satisfied chuckle followed.

“So that cocky bastard back there tried to come between an Alpha and his mate?” He laughed when Terry returned his smile and nodded affirmatively. “Serves him right. We’ve been investigating him for several months now, following several complaints of abuse of power. We weren’t able to get the goods on him, but thanks to you all, we now have him dead to rights. He won’t be bothering anyone again for a long time.”

Once Ivan completed all the necessary paperwork, he stood and looked around the room once again as if he were looking for something specific. Something had caught his interest. Ivan walked over to one of the adjacent desks. He took a deep breath and ran his fingertips over the surface as if caressing the wood.

“Whose desk is this?” He asked offhandedly, or so it seemed.

“Jamie McCormick. He’s one of the officers here, but he was called away this morning on a case regarding cattle theft up north. You probably won’t meet him if you’re only staying a couple of days. Those calls usually take a while to sort out.” Terry informed.

“I look forward to meeting him.” And that was an understatement.

CHAPTER ONE

Ivan Rand, Beta of the Traverse Bay Wolves, was ready to return home. He’d handled the Jordan Randall criminal case since returning from Lonepine, Montana, three months ago, and all he wanted to do now was go home. He was a detective with the Traverse Bay Police Department and had been on loan to the State Police post in Traverse City for the past year.

During that time, he’d been following Assistant District Attorney Jordan Randall, who was under suspicion of using his position to curry favor in the form of payoffs and to extort sexual favors from some of his victims. There were even rumors, although not proven, that he was involved in the sex trade business, all while under the guise of serving the citizens of Grand Traverse County.

Ivan had requested this assignment when one of his fellow pack members was taken advantage of by Randall. Colin Hunter, a young omega wolf, refused to say much. He was too embarrassed and afraid. Ivan’s brother Viktor, who also happened to be the Alpha of the Traverse Bay Wolves, asked Ivan to investigate and find justice for the young wolf.

Colin’s physical wounds were significant and were taken care of by their pack doctor, but Ivan believed that they paled in comparison to the young man’s mental and emotional wounds. Despite this, Colin wouldn’t tell them what happened or who did it.

The doctor gave them the information regarding the type of abuse that had taken place, and from there, Ivan investigated and discovered Colin’s connection to Assistant District Attorney Jordan Randall of Traverse City. Ivan was determined to bring the man to justice.

Ivan hadn’t had much success in the beginning since Randall’s victims were all too afraid to talk until Randall finally picked on the wrong man. He decided that nineteen-year-old college student Ronan James was to be his next sex slave, but Ronan and his sister Molly had other ideas.

They ran when ADA Randall put out an arrest warrant for them based on false charges and ran right into the arms of their shifter mates three states away. Jordan Randall took on the Alpha and Beta of the Lonepine Pack and lost. Now Randall was being put away for the pain and suffering he’d caused so many, including the young wolf from Ivan’s home pack.
