“Aurora.” I grab her cheeks and turn her head toward me. “You just called me by YOUR nickname, and you’re not making a lick of fucking sense. You’re cut off. End of discussion.”
She makes a pouty face and crosses her arms over her chest, relaxing into the booth, but she doesn’t argue with me. I’ve never seen her get this drunk, especially not from one drink.
When we’re finished eating, Rae and I split Rory’s second drink.
“It’s probably best if you take her home, we can go shopping next weekend!” Rae quips, “I’m going to go pay the bill real quick.”
“Rory, are you doing ok?” I ask; she looks like she’s about to take a nap right here at the table. She nods her head yes, but doesn’t speak. A commotion behind us draws my attention and I turn to look at what’s going on. There’s a man in front of Rae and she’s yelling for him to leave her alone. I approach them and grab Rae’s arm to bring her back to the booth.
The guy grabs ahold of Rae’s other arm, rambling on about her not being such a bitch.
“She said to leave her alone,” I explain, “That usually means to fuck off!”
“Why do you bitches always have to act like this?” He spits, “You smile at every guy you come across, then act like a stuck up cunt when one smiles back.”
“I smiled at you because I’m a polite person.” Rae snarls. “That doesn’t fucking mean I want you to approach me. And it damn sure doesn’t give you permission to put your hands on me.”
She pulls her arm free, but he tries to grab it again. My mind goes completely blank as I pull my arm back and punch him in the nose as hard as I can.
“Fucking bitch!” He shouts and punches me in the side of the face. My head instantly begins to pound and I barely register that another man has stepped in and is pushing the other guy out of the building. Bringing my hand to my face, I wince. Fuck! Mateo is going to lose his mind.
“Hey, are you okay?” Rae asks, touching the side of my face. I pull away from her, already feeling the swelling start.
“I’ll be alright, I just need to get Rory home and come up with a story to keep Mateo off my back.”
“Don’t lie to him, Luna,” she pleads, “It will only make things worse if he finds out the truth. And you know damn well he will find out.”
I nod my head and go back to the booth to grab Mrs. Drunky pants. Rae follows behind me and helps bring her to the car.
Once I buckle her seatbelt, she immediately falls asleep. I turn to Rae and give her a hug. “Sorry we couldn’t finish our girls day. Next time, no drinks.”
“It’s not a big deal.” She hugs me back. “I’m sorry that you got punched because of me.”
“It’s not your fault that guy has a tiny dick and a huge ego.” I smile at her before getting in the driver’s seat. “I’ll text you when we make it home.”
“Alright, drive safe.”
We’re almost half way home when my phone rings. I look at the screen on the dash and see that it’s Enzo calling me. I press the green button on the steering wheel, and his voice blasts through the speakers.
“Pull the fuck over, now.” He growls.
“What? Why?” I question, looking at my surroundings as my heart rate increases rapidly.
“Do what you’re told and just pull the fuck over!” Mateo barks.
“Aye aye, captain.” I joke, hoping to lighten the mood. “Pulling into a gas station now.”
“Don’t fucking move.” Enzo says just before the call ends.
What the fuck? I look around the parking lot, dropping my head to the steering wheel when I see Mateo’s Escalade pulling up behind me. This is not going to be good.
Chapter 7
Mateo
After I pull into the gas station behind Luna, I press the button to shut the car off and look at Lorenzo. He smiles quickly before movement catches our attention. Looking up, I see Luna leaned into the passenger seat, waving her arms around. Enzo and I jump out of the car and run to the passenger side where Aurora is completely unconscious.
“What the hell happened?” Enzo asks, pulling Rory from the vehicle and laying her down on the ground.
