“Just stay here, and I’ll grab some bottles of water.” He’d sat me down on a bench that faced the stage. The music was upbeat, and all sorts of people were dancing. Older couples, much younger couples, and kids off spinning in their own little worlds. I admired their ability to let loose and feel the music.
“Drink this,” he urged as he removed the lid and placed the bottle at my lips.
I took it from him and took several sips. His arm went around my shoulders along the back of the bench, and I scooted over until our legs touched. Evan reaffixed the lid and placed a small bag of popcorn in my hand. He took such good care of me. We’d been snacking from various vendors and restaurant booths all afternoon, but we hadn’t had an official meal.
“Feeling better?” The smile hadn’t left his face the whole afternoon.
I nodded as I grabbed his hand and placed it on my lap, interlacing our fingers. “Much. Thank you. You might have a hard time getting rid of me if you keep feeding me like this.”
“Maybe that’s been my plan all along.” He smiled and kissed my temple. “Did you want to get some dinner here or head back to the house?”
All the restaurants in the area were filled to the brim, and loud laughter rang out their doors. I had a feeling that it might be too much for Evan.
“We can go home. I think you’ve gotten in your quota of peopling today,” I replied, smiling up at him.
“I think I’ve met my quota for the month, but I like you referring to my house as home,” he whispered into my neck before he laid a sensual kiss below my ear.
“I think the fireworks will start after dark. Let’s stay for that and then go.” We sat cuddled on the bench, enjoying the festive atmosphere until vibrant bursts of color filled the night sky above us.
I looked over at Evan halfway through; he wasn’t looking at the fireworks. The lights were reflecting off his eyes as he gazed down at me. I couldn’t describe the feeling in my altered state, but he made me feel something I didn’t think I’d encountered before.
“You ready?” he asked quietly as his eyes flickered to my lips. I knew he meant to head home, but I was ready to hand over my heart as well.
I nodded my head as I felt myself leaning toward him. He met me halfway and kissed me long and deep, cradling my face with his large hands. Something had changed between us, and I wasn’t sure what that would mean for the future. There were still so many things undecided.
The only noise in the car was the soft music playing through the speakers. It was filled with anticipation of what would come when we returned to his house. His hand was tracing a maddening pattern on my knee as he drove.
“You tired?” he asked, holding the front door open.
“No.” My voice was quiet, but I was wide awake and sobering up with the anticipation of how things were shifting between us.
He took my hand and started to pull me toward the living room.
“But I am ready for bed.”
His silent stare was heated as he nodded and followed me down the hallway to his bedroom. I stopped at the foot of his bed and turned to face him.
I was nervous for the first time since we’d embarked on a physical relationship. My hand shook a little as I unbuttoned his shirt slowly. His hands found my hips and slowly rubbed circles on the bare skin above the waistband of my pants.
I could feel his heartbeat thumping against my fingertips as I worked the small buttons through the holes, one after the other. We were completely silent as we looked at each other, afraid to break the spell. When I reached the last button, he released me and slowly shrugged off his shirt and denim jacket, letting them drop to the floor.
My hands were drawn like magnets to the defined ridges on his stomach, tracing my fingers through the soft hair covering his abdomen. His breath caught as I released the button to his pants.
He gently stalled my hand when I reached for the zipper and pulled my shirt over my head. My bra was next to go as he reached around me to unclasp it, kissing my shoulder as the straps fell away.
He lowered himself to the floor, kneeling before me and gently kissing my stomach as he began to peel my leggings down my thighs. Helping me step out of them, he ran his hands slowly up my thighs as he reached for my panties.
“Ohh...” I panted as his lips followed their descent down my legs. After he’d tossed them to the side, he stood up and slowly pushed his pants and underwear to the floor.
My chest was heaving as I looked at him. He truly was a beautiful man, and my mouth went dry as his erection bobbed in between us as he stared at my exposed breasts.
Evan licked his lips and swallowed as he slowly sat down on the edge of the bed and grasped my hand. He tugged me forward and brought both hands to my waist, encouraging me to straddle his lap.
“You’re so beautiful.” His voice was low and sensual as he traced a single finger along my cheek, down my neck, and across the peak of my nipple. “Without the risk of sounding cliché, but what did I do to deserve you?”
“Kiss me,” I whispered as I smoothed my hands across his shoulders and into the hair on the back of his head.
His lips parted slightly, and I nipped at the bottom before sliding mine to nestle with his. There was no hurry as we slowly explored each other’s mouths. Slow caresses against each other’s tongues and lips. My head was spinning, but the alcohol had long worn off. Evan was intoxicating me with each movement of his lips and the slow motions of his fingertips along my hips.
