I must have blacked out for a moment, my ears ringing as I returned to myself. Evan stretched himself against me, massaging my breast as he rained kisses along my neck and shoulder as I clung to him, desperately trying to catch my breath. I was quite sure he was the one trying to kill me now.

There were no words. For once, the characters’ voices in my head were silent. I was completely present in the moment without storylines running through my brain, and it was because of one person.

Chase was curled up against my chest, fingers idly tracing the skin over my heart. I had no way to describe what had happened adequately, and for someone who got paid to craft a compelling narrative, that said something.

When I met her, I never expected to end up pleasuring her in my bed a few days later—not that I hadn’t fantasized about it.

“You’re thinking awfully loudly up there,” her quiet voice brought me back, and I kissed the top of her thoroughly sexed-up hair.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m certain I’ve been stunned speechless.” I didn’t even recognize my voice.

Going down on a woman was something I’d only done a handful of times, and it’d never been as frantic as it’d been with Chase.

Once she started writhing against my face, I was determined to get her to come again. It also helped that her book heroes loved to give oral. Who knew I’d get to use some of the new skills her writing taught me on the author herself?

She smiled and kissed my chest. “What’s the plan for the rest of the day?”

“I want to start drafting an outline, but I feel like the scenes with Kallie are missing something.” I had a niggling feeling that we weren’t quite done with them yet.

“How so?” she asked curiously.

“I know they sound believable now, but I keep thinking about what you said.”

“I say lots of things,” she laughed. “You’re going to have to be more specific.”

“I’m aware,” I nodded as I ran my fingers down her bare back. “The part about if your heart doesn’t start beating faster while you’re reading it that it’s not hot enough.”

“That’s good advice.” I smiled at the smugness in her voice. “You don’t think you accomplished that?”

“I don’t know,” I sighed. “I feel maybe they could be more authentic.”

“You’re not going to abandon me to chase down a prostitute, are you?” she teased. I doubted I could look at another woman and not compare her to Chase at this point. But it was way too early to tell her that.

“Would you want to read the whole manuscript?” I normally didn’t allow anyone but the editing team to do that, but...

“You’d let me read it early?”

I’d let you do anything right now.

“If you knew the whole plotline, maybe it’d make it easier for you to help me fix it.” If she was going to be my partner, I wanted her to be completely in the loop. We could start with this.

“Won’t Adrian have a fit?” she asked with humor in her voice. I could tell she wasn’t a fan of his. To be honest, sometimes, neither was I.

“What he doesn’t know...” I trailed off.

“Okay.” Her voice was quiet and guarded as she answered a few moments later.

I blew out a nervous breath and turned my face into her forehead. She snuggled further into my embrace and sighed as my lips rested on her soft skin.

“Are you sure you trust me that much?”

Positive.

“Of course, Chase. I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather... How did I phrase it before?” I mused, “Rip me a new one.”
