His palm came to rest between us on my flat stomach. “Maybe it’s too early to travel?”

I was seven weeks along. I’d only peed on the stick a few weeks ago, and if this was any indication of how Adam was going to be, I might need to move to another continent for the pregnancy. Last week, he’d paid major bucks for me to have a special ultrasound so we could hear the heartbeat.

“It’s going to be fine. I’ll drink tea and eat crumpets, and you can have a pint of beer.”

“I told my mom,” he finally admitted, looking away for a second.

“Um-hmm. Since she gave you a hall pass to see me, I figured as much.”

“I needed to see you, and also, I couldn’t take Sophia anymore.”

“Was your mom happy?”

Adam nodded. “First grandbaby, of course. She’s over the moon.”

“Did you tell her the other part?”

He shook his head, bringing his lips to my forehead. “No.”

“You can. You know I don’t get mad over those things.”

Another shake of his head and a light kiss on my hairline.

We were going to name the baby Rebecca if it was a girl, and Benjamin in honor of Becca if it was a boy. The decision had brought Adam to tears ten days ago. I was in for it with this one, but I wouldn’t want to be in it with anyone else.

“Mom asked if you were going to keep working or stay home.”

I pulled in a breath. “Are you trying to upset me?”

“No way, and that’s exactly what I said. You’re going to keep your job and bring the baby with you to this beautiful place where we met, so his or her extended Cayman family could babysit.”

This was when I started to cry. The hormones were kicking in big-time, and I needed to get Adam out of here so I could make it down the aisle without falling apart.

Sniffing back my tears, I gave him a little push. “Okay, let’s get hitched before I start showing.”

“You need to put your dress on.”

“I know, so go,” I said, shooing him away.

Turning as he walked down the path, he yelled, “Luckiest guy ever when I sat down at your bar.”

“The luck was all mine,” I whispered, and went to get my dress on.

“You back there, Sam?”

When I heard her voice coming from the front of the coffee shop, I wanted to hide in the back room forever. Taking my time to grab an extra milk, I was in no hurry to wait on the customer whose voice was all too familiar. It used to make me smile, but now it made me want to run away.

“Dad’s not here,” I said, making my way up front to the counter.

“Oh, Shell, what’s up? I haven’t seen you in a while.”

I didn’t deserve her kindness.

Rylan stood there, glistening from her run but looking as beautiful as ever. The thing was, it was hard to hate her because she didn’t even know how gorgeous she was. Her smile was captivating when she chose to share it, and up until a couple of months ago, she’d been heartbroken. Now, her prince was back and living on the West Bay on the island.
