The fact he’d discarded her daughter like rubbish to then bless Anna’s life with such rich fruits was a means to an end. Cruel, yes, but that was the way of the world and very nature itself.

But as time went by, Anna-Rose couldn’t shake her uneasy gut feeling. So when she discovered Tony’s frequent visits to paid-for services offered by certain women, she struggled to keep it together.

But she did.

Just.

Now starved of the ecstasy ridden orgasms her husband had once blessed her with, Anna-Rose was nothing but a bored, frustrated housewife expected to play happy families. For the sake of her two young daughters, aged ten and eight, she did. But not without contempt, nor making the slimy bastard aware she knew of his ‘activities’.

Whilst she thought this was the biggest blow she’d have to face in the wrath of karma and her past sins, Anna-Rose had never dreamed in her wildest of dreams that her mother would call her one day, saying the words she said in that call—letting her know that her debt to karma was far from paid.

But now, as the doorbell rang and her heart galloped to new speeds, Anna-Rose regretted all of her life. She knew who stood the other side of that white door. She knew what was about to happen—she could feel it in her gut.

But as a tiny piece of karma to her bastard husband, she kept her mouth shut.

Chapter 35

Seeing the look on Tony’s face when he answered the door was a moment Kyla would relive over and over again, for the rest of time.

His pink cheeks literally drained to a ghostly white, his green eyes filling with fear and trepidation as she smiled back at him. As she stared at him, not saying a word, she watched with nothing but sheer satisfaction as his aura turned from a multitude of colours to a wishy-washy grey.

“Well, hello,” she said. “Long time, no see.”

He opened his mouth, but no words were spoken, almost as if he were choking on his own thoughts.

Appearing behind him, Anna-Rose peered over her husband’s left shoulder, standing a good six feet back from the door. Her piercing blue eyes paled to a dull, watery grey, the sheet white colour of her porcelain skin stood out against the dark shadows around her eyes.

Kyla grinned. Her mother knew exactly what was going to happen next. She knew her time was up. “Hello, mother,” she said, almost spitting the word out of her mouth. “How lovely to see you looking so...dreadful.”

Anna-Rose dropped her eye contact and stared at the floor, not sure what exactly to say.

Before Kyla could say anything more, a young girl with long black hair skipped up behind Tony and peered around his side. With her fair skin, brilliant blue eyes, and red pouty lips, she could have easily been named Snow White and no one would have questioned it.

“Hi,” she said, smiling at Kyla. “I’m Lina. Who are you?”

Kyla looked down at her half-sister and smiled. “I’m Kyla. Nice to meet you. How old are you, sweetheart?”
