Oof—really put my foot in my mouth there.
Caroline merely shakes her head, her straight shoulder-length brown hair swishing back and forth with the motion. “I doubt Parker would mind,” she counters casually.
Cassidy gives me a look that silently conveys the opposite—he absolutely would mind, which only reinforces my decision to keep things with Beau under wraps for now. After all, if my brother’s own fiancée can keep secrets from him, I see no reason why I can’t do the same.
Chapter 37
Claire
As I shift the car into park, my sister wraps up a lengthy monologue about how she never wants to see another cadaver again. I make a pointed effort to bite my tongue. She chose the wrong career path if she’s already feeling that way one semester into med school, though I have no doubt that she’ll make a great physician—her brilliance is matched only by her empathy.
Shooting off a quick text to Beau, I hop out of the car.
About to pull up to the hospital with the gang. We come bearing cookies and joy.
Beau immediately responds, and this time I really am biting my tongue, though for a completely different reason.
It would bring me great joy to eat your cookie.
The pure confidence of this man is truly astounding.
What does that even mean…sicko
As we walk up to the staff entrance, my phone buzzes.
It’s provocative—gets the people going.
Suppressing a grin at his reference to Blades of Glory, one of my personal favorites, I keep the door open for my sister and Cassidy. They’re doing the heavy lifting, carrying the twelve dozen cookies we spent the morning baking.
The only thing you’re provoking is my gag reflex.
Merry Christmas, ballsy Beau.
I tuck my phone away and trail behind them, navigating the maze-like hallways deep within the hospital. Compared to the pristine corridors that are patient-facing, this area looks like it’s seen better days. Beige walls, marked and scuffed, line our path as we make our way deeper into the hospital. As we round a corner, my phone pings again.
My cock is about to provoke your gag reflex.
(Merry Christmas to me)
Where are you?
My stomach drops, and I look up to make sure that Cass and Caroline aren’t able to see my screen. He’s insane if he thinks I’m going to be able to sneak away for a quickie with the two of them practically babysitting me . . . but it sure will be fun watching him try.
I quickly scan for the closest marked door, shooting our location to Beau just as Morgan appears, bounding energetically around the corner.
“Oh shit, I almost didn’t recognize you,” the petite brunette exclaims, pulling me into her tiny arms and squeezing tight. “Merry Christmas to my future little nurse!” she sings out, drawing out the last words as she steps back. Morgan clasps my hands in hers and makes me hop up and down.
Her outfit is a mixture of professional and festive—light blue scrub bottoms paired with a white sweatshirt that says “gRiNch”, highlighting her nursing role. Reindeer antlers, blinking excessively with colored lights, bob on top of her head, smacking against me as we jump.
“Doesn’t she look good in scrubs?” Cass chimes in, beaming at me.
“Hell yes, she does,” Morgan agrees, releasing my hands to pry open a container of cookies that Cass is holding.
“I had to look the part,” I explain, popping my hip as I strike an impromptu pose.
To avoid any issues, Cassidy had me change into something inconspicuous—her spare scrubs. The only problem is, my sister-in-law is a solid four inches shorter than me, making the top fit fine, but the bottoms a tad snug. I can practically feel them riding up my ass, and while they’re definitely not what I would wear normally, now that I know I’m seeing Beau, I’m not complaining.
“Seen Parker anywhere?” Cassidy asks Morgan.
