Once the guests begin to gradually migrate outside after the big reveal, I catch up with Parker and Cass.

“Happy engagement, man,” I offer, bringing Parker into a hug as the commotion settles. “You look dapper as fuck.”

He’s wearing a tux similar to mine, only it’s definitely way more expensive than my department store getup. Parker’s dark hair is slicked back, and he smells like pure affluence. I guess that’s what a trust fund and an attending surgeon’s salary will get you.

Parker’s face lights up, pulling me in close. “And you look like shit.”

“Still better looking than you, though,” I shoot back, giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder.

“Not with that beard you don’t. It looks like a damn yeti took over your face.”

I brush off his insult, knowing deep down that he’s just jealous. My beard is dope, and his sister loves it. Especially when she’s riding my tongue . . .

“Hey—play nice,” Cassidy chides, pulling us both into a hug, her head nestled between us. “That’s supposed to be his New Year’s resolution.”

I arch an eyebrow at Parker as we step back. “I’ll believe that when I see it.”

He shakes his head, turning his attention to his fiancée. “And what about your resolution, sweetheart?”

Her cheeks flush the same color as her lipstick. I can’t resist the urge to tease her, knowing that it’s got to be good if this is her reaction. “Yeah, Cass, what’s yours?”

Cassidy glares at me with those striking hazel eyes of hers. Her blonde hair is swept back from her face, highlighting her embarrassment. “It doesn’t matter,” she mutters, darting her eyes back to Parker. “Because it isn’t happening.”

I look at Parker who’s got a shit-eating grin on his freshly shaven face. “Her resolution is to let me fuck her ass.”

Unable to help myself, I burst out laughing. That’s the last thing I thought would come out of his mouth.

“Hey, Cass,” I offer, trying to catch my breath. “There’s plenty of interns who already get fucked in the ass by him on a daily basis. I’m sure they could coach you. Just gotta relax into it.”

“I hate you both.” She snatches a full flute of champagne from the counter and strides toward the balcony.

“Love you too,” I call after her, still laughing as she flips us off on her way out.

Parker watches her go. A playful smirk still lingers on his lips but there’s only fondness in his eyes. “She loves you too,” he says confidently.

“You two really are perfect for each other,” I admit, hoping one day he’ll feel the same about Claire and me. “Never a dull moment.”

Parker nods. “Speaking of never having dull moments. Have you seen my sister? I want to thank her for putting this all together.”

“Uh, yeah,” I respond, trying to sound nonchalant. “Actually, Claire’s a little tied up at the moment.”

Literally.

“Oh?” He arches a brow, reaching for a glass of champagne.

“Yeah you know, just been in hostess mode,” I say smoothly, glancing at my phone. I should probably go grab her now that the guests of honor are here. “Last I saw, she was outside and deep in conversation with Dr. Wilson. I think they were talking about his houseboat.”

“Oof, I don’t envy her,” Parker grimaces, taking a sip of the bubbly as Cassidy waves him over from outside. Her short, white dress is definitely not made for winter, so I’m glad we got heaters. “I’m being summoned. Come save me in a bit. I want to talk to you about something.”

“Sure thing,” I agree, only half listening as my mind drifts to Claire. “Just gonna grab something from upstairs, and I’ll be back down.”

Chapter 41

Claire

I’ve had what feels like forever to plan what I was going to say to Beau when he came back for me, but all of it flies out of my head when he pulls the blindfold from my eyes and peers down at me, looking like a freaking James Bond villain.

I’m dead serious.
