“That’s crazy.” She grins, making her dimples pop in her full cheeks. “Who cares if it’s basically a myth? It’s an awesome story.”

I grab the conditioner, trying not to focus on her dripping tits. “That it is.”

“Someone needs to put me in touch with Soren,” Bless rants on speakerphone the same night.

Brooklyn lies next to me with her head on my chest. “What?” she asks, frowning at the screen. “Why?”

“Kostov’s omega won’t stop following me around,” Bless snaps. “Every time I walk in to buy coffee, he’s there with his messy blond curls and big blue eyes blinking at me. He follows me around, Brook.”

“Aleks?” I ask.

“Who else?” Bless huffs.

“Um, do you think he’s a danger to you?” Brooklyn asks.

“No,” Bless admits.

“She’s really fond of his scent, though,” Stacia says in the background. “And, damn, he’s not bad to look at.” She laughs. “What? You know he’s sexy.”

“He’s bonded to Kostov.” Bless snorts. “The most intolerable alpha I’ve met in a long time.”

“Because he wouldn’t let you keep Avan’s head?” Stacia asks, laughing. “He needed it for a good cause.”

Brooklyn’s nose wrinkles.

“Oh, have I told you? You smell like mine, darling.” Bless mimics Kostov’s accent.

It reminds me of the night he said that to Stacia.

“Bless has very mixed feelings about Kostov and Aleks at the moment,” Stacia says.

Bless snorts. “And you don’t?”

Stacia laughs. There are some random sounds that lead me to believe they’re kissing.

“I mean, they are really hot,” Brooklyn says, shrugging.

“Little Mama,” I growl, gently swatting her ass.

“Listen, I need to talk to Ivanov. Something has to change,” Bless says, like she’s desperately trying to get our conversation back on track. “Kostov has Aleks following me around day and night. He actually has the omega convinced he’s protecting me.”

“You could just accept Kostov’s proposal,” Stacia offers.

“Ooh, this is getting good.” Brooklyn laughs, smacking me in the stomach. “What proposition?”

“To rule the city at his side,” Stacia says. “To guarantee women don’t suffer in the same ways they did under the Barretts’ rule.”

“It’s not just women.” Bless sighs. “Omegas, children, old people. There are all sorts of groups who can’t protect themselves.”

“Ohmigod,” Brooklyn says. “That’s actually so romantic. I think they’re trying to court the two of you!”

“I’m a beta,” Stacia sputters.

“I’m an alpha,” Bless chokes out.

“Try Ranger. I’m sure he has Soren’s number,” I offer, suddenly distracted by the smile on Brooklyn’s face.

“You guys suck.” Bless snorts. “Remember, she just popped out the last kid. No fucking for a few more weeks.”
