“I’m not mad anymore, Dad,” I assure him with a gentle squeeze of his hand. “I mean, I would have been mad if it wasn’t Felix, but fate played a role in all of this.”

“I’m sorry for everything, my child,” he says as he places a hand on my head again. “I want you to have my blessings for the rest of your life. Your happiness is what matters the most.”

“Thank you, Dad,” I murmur, feeling so full of the love I couldn’t see before. The love I denied myself from feeling.

When my dad’s eyes flit down to my belly, I feel heat spreading across my face.

“Is it true?” he asks, pointing at my stomach.

“I’m not sure yet,” I shrug. “I haven’t confirmed—”

I’m interrupted when there’s a gentle knock on the door before it opens up. Felix appears then, pursing his lips.

“I hope I’m not interrupting,” he grimaces, pointing behind him. “I can leave if this isn’t a good time.”

Gulping, I turn back to my father and mouth the words, “Don’t tell him.” while shaking my head discreetly in warning.

Dad winks his promise to keep my suspected pregnancy a secret before turning to Felix.

“I’m sure you wanna discuss what happened yesterday,” Dad says. “Sierra was just about to leave.”

I frowned at my father but proceeded to get to my feet, placing a soft kiss on his forehead and promising to visit him later.

He wants a private moment with Felix, so I decide to give it to them.

Besides, I’d picked up a new pregnancy test kit from the Aurora Island hospital, and I’m dying to know the result.

Chapter 25 - Felix

Watching the exchange between Diego and Sierra through the square frosted window on the room door, I smile to myself.

Despite harboring skepticism toward the man, he saved the woman I love.

I need to thank him for that.

Knocking on the door and heading inside, I realize I’m interrupting something important between the father and daughter when I notice Sierra’s puffy eyes. She’d been crying, but when she kissed her father’s forehead, I knew it was for all the right reasons.

She barely looks my way as she leaves, making me wonder if she’s still upset with me. Frowning after her as she disappears behind the door, Diego clears his throat from the bed and draws my attention back to him.

“I know what you’re thinking, and no, I didn’t hurt her again,” he rebukes with a huff.

“I didn’t say anything,” I contend with a frown.

“You didn’t have to, young man,” he quips, and I can’t help but chuckle.

“Young?” I scoff. “I’m a few hundred years older than you, Diego.”

“Spare me the details, Felix,” he sneers. “If you’re here to lock me up again, do it now.” He holds his hands out, wrists flush together as if he expects me to cuff him.

Sighing heavily, I roll my eyes. “I’m actually here to thank you for saving my mate,” I admit begrudgingly. Even though he’d saved Sierra and somewhat made up for all the trouble he caused before, I don’t know if he can truly be trusted.

He’s been in hot water more times than it should be deemed humanly appropriate.

“You should be thanking me for more than that,” he chuckles as he sets his wrists down. “I’m glad we have a moment to finally speak, man to man. Take a seat.”

There’s something in the way his firm tone has me heeding his instructions despite being the only dragon shifter in the room. I decide not to question it, taking to the chair and crossing my arms over my chest.

“You wanna make a deal again, huh? You want money for taking a bullet for your daughter?”
