“Okay, okay.” Sighing in resignation, Ember looks around the room. “I can’t take you all to the portal, “but I suppose…” She looks toward Ana, who nods and smiles.

“I suppose all of us can travel to Paris.”

“I love that idea.” Ana turns toward Flame and me on the sofa. “I’ll contact the palace. They’ll help to arrange a jet and lodging suitable to accommodate us all. And once this is all over, I hear Paris is a lovely city for a celebration.”

Her hopefulness tempers some of the fear and uncertainty inside me. If anyone can do this, it’s Ana.

Chapter

Thirty-Five

Ana

The sun will be up in three hours, and there’s been no sign of Phil since we returned. Ember is with her mates, but she and I spent the last couple of hours talking. She used magic to create a dome of silence around us as she told me more about the portal, and we also firmed up our travel plans.

Based on the timing, unless we all feed from Ember, we need to wait until sunset to leave here—fifteen hours from now. Ember is willing to feed us all, but her mates nixed the idea of her feeding Phil. I can’t say that I blame them.

In my heart, I can’t believe that Phil would hurt Ember, but I have no idea how the demon might react when Phil feeds, not to mention his physical needs after. The idea of spending eight hours on a private jet, with a demon-possessed Phil in a high state of arousal, is terrifying. But it’s not Phil who scares me, it’s the demon.

“Did you ask everything you needed to?” Blade asks me. “Did Ember answer all of your questions?”

I nod. Blade looks so worried, and I wish I could better assuage his obvious dread, but everything she’s told me sounds horrifying—a world terrorized by demons and monsters. But even Ember doesn’t know what I’ll encounter. No magic keeper in two thousand years has crossed to the other side. And the only information has been passed down verbally.

I don’t want to think about what I might face right now. My nerves are going berserk, and so I pace the room. Flame catches me around the waist on my fourth time around. He holds me against him, and his hardness presses into my lower back.

“Wanna go fuck before the sun comes up?” He nuzzles my neck, and the nerves inside me switch gears.

“My cock might relieve some of your pent-up tension, darlin’.” His hand presses against my belly as he leans around to look deep into my eyes, and every part of his expression, every vibration coming from Flame lets me know how badly he wants me to say yes.

And really…why would I say no?

I take his hand off my belly and thread our fingers together. “Flame and I are going for a walk in the woods.”

Crusher, sitting in a chair in the corner, grunts and then stands, making it clear that if I leave the cabin, he plans to follow.

Flame and I walk toward the door, and Flame turns back toward Blade. “You coming?”

In a flash, Blade is at my other side, a massive grin on his face.

Crusher takes a few steps toward us. “I’ll keep my distance,” he says. “But someone needs to keep an eye out for…” His voice trails off, but we all know who he means.

“Speaking of Phil.” Ember and Axe step into the room. She looks flushed, and it’s clear what she and her three mates have been doing. “Axe is going to go find him.” She looks up at the big man. “We can’t leave without him.”

“Oh, thank you.” I smile toward Axe, who nods. “Will you let him know what’s going on?”

Axe looks down toward Ember.

“We need to keep Phil in the dark,” she says. “The only thing he should know is that we’re all taking a trip.”

Nerves churn my belly. I hate the idea of keeping anything from Phil, but realize that if the demon knows our plans, he might do something to thwart them. Pain tightens my chest, thinking about how long it’s been since Phil and I have talked, really talked; and how long since he’s held me. The idea that he isn’t one hundred percent Phil right now is terrifying, especially after my talk with Ember.

She couldn’t answer a lot of my questions, and once Phil and I are in the other realm, I’ll be on my own.

Flame drops my hand to wrap his arm around my waist, his palm and fingers spanning an unbelievably large part of me. “Let’s go. I have a few ideas of how to wipe that worry off your face.”

Placing my hand over his, I marvel again at the size difference, my hand seeming to cover less than a quarter of his, each of his fingers as thick as at least two of mine put together. A wave of lust stabs inside me as I imagine having one or more of those fingers exploring inside me.

Trying to banish reality, I force a smile onto my lips and look up. And the second our gazes collide I’m slammed with another more powerful wave of desire. As Flame’s fingers press against my belly, his eyes hold the promise of all the ideas he’s hinted at, and they trace through me like wildfire. Flame can’t erase my worries, but I welcome the offered distraction.
