“I propose a pact.”

“A pact not to fuck her?” I jab my knife toward her. “Because you’ve already done that. Asshole!”

“All true.” He lifts his palm. “And I want to fuck her again.”

I growl. After I take his eyes, I’ll slice off Flame’s cock. He’s not selling me on his stupid pact idea. And Crusher’s already said that none of us are allowed to be alone with her anyway.

“I get the feeling that Ana wants to fuck you too.” Flame’s eyebrows rise. “If I’m right, and she’s game—”

“What are you saying?” The angry fire inside me is extinguished by hope.

“We’ll follow Crusher’s two-on-one rule—but you and I team up to be with her. That way, we can only fuck her when the other one’s around. And we can stop each other if one of us crosses the line.”

“What line?” My cock twitches, hardening at the idea that it might actually get a chance to be inside her. “Seems like this entire idea is across the line.”

“Point of the code is to avoid feelings. Agreed?”

“I nod.”

“So, if it looks like one of us is headed that way, the other one puts a stop to it.”

I breathe deeply, a million questions about Flame’s plan racing through my mind. What he’s suggesting seems impossible. Especially since I’m already full of tender feelings and I haven’t even had my cock in her cunt.

“Okay,” I say. “Deal.”

I shake his hand because, no matter how flawed his plan, agreeing to it might actually give me a chance to fuck Ana.

Chapter Thirty-One

Ana

Blade passes by me, brushing my fingertips with his. “Fancy a swim?” he asks low and deep.

Desire ripples through me, set off by his voice. And I hope Blade’s suggestion means he wants what I want: some time together, alone. And this time he’s chosen the location where we first connected, where he cut off that lock of my hair. Even if we did little more than look into each other’s eyes that day, the memory is burned into my mind, fueling desire for the dark-skinned vampire who’s shown me so much tenderness and kindness. But that encounter seems a lifetime ago, even if only a short time has passed.

I nod, and he continues past me. We haven’t been alone since our conversation a week ago. The one that was interrupted just when I thought it might turn into a kiss. And it won’t be the first time we’ve tried, but each time we’ve tried to get away from the others, Crusher or Phil has intervened, ruining everything.

But I’m not willing to give up. I need to at least speak to Blade alone, to tell him how much I appreciate how he’s supported me. Especially since my time here could end after Crusher’s meeting with Mariano tonight. And while I say meeting, I fully recognize that Crusher might kill the syndicate boss tonight. I almost hope that he does.

“I’m going for a swim,” I say, when I’m far enough from Blade that it won’t raise suspicions in the others.

“I’ll take you,” Blade says quickly. “Flame, can you join us? Got to be two of us to follow Crusher’s rules.”

Blade winks at me, like he’s got a plan for us to be alone together. Perhaps he’s made a deal with Flame.

Phil looks up from a table covered in wires and tools. Growling, he shakes his head, and then goes back to work, carefully soldering a red wire onto what looks like a circuit board. He’s building some kind of bomb. Handling explosives seems reckless and dangerous down here, but none of the others seem bothered, so I’m getting used to the risk.

It’s been nearly eight days since Crusher laid down the law forbidding the brothers from being alone with me. And whether I’ve been training in the gymnasium, watching movies, playing games, or reading in the living area, Crusher or Phil is always there.

The only time I’ve been alone is in my bedchamber to sleep, or in the massive bathroom. But, even then, Crusher or Phil remains posted at the door.

I’ve tried to explore more of Freetown, hoping to get to know more of the vampires living down here, but Crusher has since forbidden that too, declaring it too dangerous. There could be a mole. The brothers claim to trust the vampires they’ve admitted to Freetown, but clearly they don’t.

Crusher got a tip that Mariano might be at the bathhouse tonight—alone, and he went to check it out. He’ll be gone for hours. And it seems like Phil is more interested in his bomb than who goes swimming. This could be the first time neither Phil nor Crusher is with me.

Anticipation bubbles inside me. But I shouldn’t let myself get too excited. If both Blade and Flame come swimming, nothing overtly sexual can happen. Can it?

Or, has Flame agreed to give Blade some privacy with me? Was that what the wink meant? Both men desire me, as much as I do them. I can see it in their eyes, feel it in the air whenever either is near.
