“Would you like some?”
“No thanks, I’ll make some tea.”
“Okay.”
Their eyes locked from across the room, but Beau turned and made his way to the kitchen. Brenna took a deep breath before heading to her bedroom. As she sat on the bed, she couldn’t help but wonder what would happen tonight. She was nervous and scared at the same time. She had only been with two men before; a college boyfriend and Eric, and neither of them were great at making sure she enjoyed herself. What if Beau was the same? Shaking her head, she got up, changed into a T-shirt and lounge pants, and opened the door to make her way back to the living room.
She found Beau on the couch with the remote in hand, searching for a movie. He stood up as soon as he saw her, causing her to shake her head.
“I know you have manners, Beau, but as I’ve said before, you don’t need to get up every time I enter the room.”
“Sorry, it’s just a habit.”
“Don’t apologize for having manners, but it’s not necessary every time.”
Beau tilted his head. “How would I know when it is or isn’t necessary?”
Brenna widened her eyes and chuckled. “Good point.”
“Come sit with me and we’ll find a good movie. No chick flicks.”
“Sure. Let’s see what we can find.” She sat on the couch, and he sat down beside her.
The butterflies in Brenna’s stomach were driving her crazy. She took a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself.
“Don’t worry, I won’t do anything you’re not comfortable with,” Beau reassured her as he lightly touched her hand.
Brenna smiled. “I’m just nervous. It’s been two years since I’ve been with anyone, and I’ve only been with two men.”
“Brenna, we don’t have to do anything unless you want to. I would never pressure you. If it happens, it happens. There’s no rush. We’ve known each other for years, but we don’t really know each other.”
“You’re right.” She nodded. “So, let’s get to know each other first.”
“I’m fine with that.”
“Me too.”
Beau grinned and flipped through channels before settling on a movie.
“How about this one?”
She saw that he had stopped on The Sixth Sense and shook her head.
“No thanks. I love the movie, but it scares me.”
Beau laughed. “I had a feeling you’d say that. Okay, how about this one?”
She saw that he had landed on Big Trouble in Little China and chuckled.
“A cult classic. I love Kurt Russell. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen this, but I love it. This one works for me.”
“Great. We’ll watch Jack Burton and his Porkchop Express,” Beau said, making her laugh.
“So, you’ve seen it too?”
“Numerous times. It’s Luke’s favorite movie. My mom loves it and got us into it.”
Brenna stood up. “Want some popcorn?”
