I’d have to bite it every day, so she always wore my mark, but that was no problem.

I leaned forward to claim her.

Sadie shivered in the dim light, and memories of overbearing alphas stalking me through dark rooms had my muscles seizing.

I stilled.

Memories of overwhelming fear, as the alphas lost themselves to their urges and rutted me like beasts, made my stomach cramp.

The worst part hadn’t been that I wasn’t sexually attracted to them, that I hadn’t wanted them to take me, that I’d begged them not to.

The worst part was that I’d liked the violence.

When they’d stalked me, my dick had always been hard. And when they’d roughed me up, bitten me as they took what wasn’t theirs to take, I’d come repeatedly.

It was part of why I’d fled.

Cruel faces had laughed as they’d dragged knives down my flesh, and I’d moaned with pleasure.

As a crazed alpha had rutted me, he’d slapped me with his impossible strength until my head snapped to the side.

At the force of his blow, I’d always come.

They’d spat in my face. “You’re the most twisted omega in this whole fucked-up realm. Omegas are supposed to be soft. You’re lucky we bought you, because you could never handle a woman. You’d break them.” He’d slapped me again, and my body had jerked with pleasure. “I’ve never even heard of an omega liking it rough. Such a waste. You’d scare any woman away.”

That night, I’d run.

The worst part: I liked my sex violent, and I’d never been in heat before.

In the present, arms trembling with Sadie splayed beneath me, I choked out desperately, “If you don’t want this. The heat is overwhelming. I’ll stop. Sadie. Tell me. Please.”

I hated myself.

Of course she didn’t want me; I was acting like a rabid beast.

Pulling away, I fought the urge to slam my fist against my head. I would lock myself in the bathroom. Pull the marble vanity off the wall and blockade the door so I couldn’t get to her.

Delicate fingers grabbed my shoulder. “Yes, I want this.”

I stopped breathing.

“Please, I want all of you. Don’t hold back,” she rasped.

All semblance of control snapped.

Chapter 29

Sadie

AGAINST THE WALL, VIOLENTLY

A tidal wave of cinnamon crashed into me and dragged me under. It was overwhelming and breathtaking.

It was everything.

Logs crackled and popped as fresh snow piled higher.

Xerxes’s lush lips trailed down the sensitive part of my neck. He left soft, featherlight kisses. Reverently, he kissed across my clavicle and down my chest until his lips whispered across my belly.
