“I wanna go Greece too,” Niles harrumphed, tightening his arms around Miles’ neck.
As Kyril walked over, his expression filled with worry, Miles narrowed his eyes. “You’re not coming with us?”
Kyril gave him a sad smile, shaking his head. “Nia is too far along with her pregnancy. I was just on my way to talk to Damen.”
“She can stay behind,” Miles insisted, cradling his precious boy closer. Harmonia may be too far along to travel, but that didn’t have to ruin the entire plan.
From the moment he met Kyril’s mate he knew that she would be trouble. His brother rescued her from a life of poverty, saving her when she was almost been killed by the son of the family she worked for.
She wrapped Kyril around her little finger, seducing him by acting like a victim. If she was anything other than his fated mate, Miles would have killed her a long time ago.
Even now, after all this time, Kyril was still enthralled as ever with her, and as usual, she was separating them. Kyril wouldn’t want to go without her, but Miles still needed to try. “We can take Niles together.”
Kyril just blinked at him. “I can’t leave her alone. What if she needs me? What if something happens?”
“Phaedra can come be with her.” Miles shrugged, nonchalantly. Phaedra was their pack healer before Harmonia. After joining the Elder Council, she gladly stepped down from the role.
While Miles hated his brother’s mate with every molecule in his body, he couldn’t deny that she was good at what she did, even though he was loathe to admit it.
“No,” Kyril scoffed, reaching out for his son. “Niles will have to deal with staying here.”
Miles’ brow dropped in annoyance. “I can take him.”
Kyril sighed, shaking his head. “There won’t be anyone there when you’re busy. He needs to stay with us.”
Annoyance rolled in his chest. He didn’t like denying anything that his boy wanted. Niles started crying then, his fussy little body writhing in his uncle’s arms.
“Niles,” Kyril said sternly, startling Miles.
Kyril was never overly strict with his son. He had the patience of a saint. It was then that Miles noticed the dark circles under his brother’s eyes.
“Are you alright?” Miles asked quietly, reaching out to squeeze his arm as he rocked Niles against his shoulder.
Kyril sighed, pressing his fingers to his eyes as if to relieve some tension there. “Nia hasn’t been able to sleep. We think the pup may be coming early. Too early.”
Miles’ entire body froze. If anything happened to Harmonia, Kyril would be devastated. If she died, he would follow.
He might wait a few years for Niles to be old enough to understand what was happening, but he would die no matter what. Werewolves couldn’t survive long without their mates. Dru was a prime example of that.
“Has she been to see that human doctor? The specialist?”
Kyril nodded, rubbing the back of his neck now, a tired smile on his face. “She’s being so careful. Taking all the precautions, but I’m worried. I don’t want anything to happen to her.”
He covered his face with his hands now, scrubbing hard, but Miles scented the tears. His brother never cried. Niles seemed to realize that no one was paying attention to his fussing, a first when he was around Miles, and he turned to watch his father.
He reached his chubby little hands out for a hug. Kyril gave a small laugh and took his son, holding him close.
“She’ll be alright.” Miles gave his brother’s arm a tight squeeze. “Let’s find another doctor to give a second opinion. Nothing’s going to happen to her.”
Kyril gave him a watery smile.
“Let me take Niles until we leave,” he suggested. “Go make your mate comfortable.”
His brother sighed, reaching forward to hug Miles. Niles’ tiny arms wrapped around both their heads as he giggled. “Thank you. I love you, my brother.”
“You two are everything to me.” He shrugged simply, pressing kisses to both Kyril’s cheeks before doing the same to Niles and tossing him into the air.
The happy squeals from his precious boy as he caught him, cuddling him close, were enough to wash away the worries. “She will be well,” he assured Kyril.
