Hippolyta’s eyebrows swept up.
“Oh, don’t look so surprised. Of course I asked him if it was true.”
She shook her head at how ridiculous he was before she sobered. “It can’t be someone in the pack, Xan. It just can’t be.”
“I don’t want to believe it either, but then why else would he be so upset about whoever is trying to sabotage us? Has he… Has he told you?”
Hippolyta’s eyes widened. “Told me what?”
“About,” Xander swallowed, glancing around. “Someone dying.”
“Who?” She was holding his hand again, squeezing tightly. “Who is it?”
“He didn’t say.” He sighed, shaking his head. “But he said it would be in Greece. Someone would die there.”
“Why didn’t you say?” she hissed.
“I didn’t know. I only heard him muttering to himself while he was trying to get some sleep earlier.”
Her lips twisted as she glanced back at Cole, her gaze clashing with his as she did. He didn’t look happy, but he seemed to be holding himself back from storming over and pulling her away.
Progress.
She reached her hand out toward him. His eyes widened, but he stood quickly, hurrying over and folding his tall form onto the floor next to her. She glanced around to make sure no one was watching before sliding to the floor next to him and leaning her head against his shoulder.
If there was ever a time she needed support, it was now. The thought of any of the men in her life dying was enough to send her over the edge.
“Maybe we should turn the plane around,” she whispered.
Cole shook his head calmly.
“We can’t do that for the same reason we can’t ignore his warnings. If we mess with fate—”
“We’ll get doubly burned,” she finished, knowing the words Uncle Castor was wont to say on a whim. “Gods, I hate that he’s right.”
Cole shrugged, and it was only then that she realized Xander had been glaring at him the entire time. She reached out for her friend’s hand and he took it at once.
“He’s my mate,” she said quietly, and she felt Cole’s head whip in her direction. “Accept it. For me.”
The scowl that she earned, from the least-serious male that she knew, meant that he didn’t want to.
“We’ll see with time if he deserves you,” Xander muttered, standing and walking over to where Miles was taking a nap, sitting moodily next to him.
She felt Cole’s hand make its way onto her own. Glancing up, she caught a gentle look from him.
“You called me your mate.”
She shrugged nonchalantly, even though she knew it was a huge deal for her. “It’s what you are.”
“True,” he said with a small smile, pulling her tighter against him.
He leaned back and snuggled her against him, his arms making her feel more at home than she ever had in Minnesota.
Hippolyta hid a smirk behind her hand. Arriving in Greece wasn’t quite the homecoming Selene probably expected. Everyone was waiting for them at the tarmac, cars ready to take them all home.
Cheers and celebrations sounded, kisses and hugs spreading all the way around. As one, the Greek faction surrounded the alpha pair, bowing low. Damen was resigned to it while Selene looked stricken.
“Our king and queen are home,” Pollux boomed, reaching out to raise their hands, connecting them. “Finally!”
