“Rowan—” I was going to shatter. I was?—

Rowan gasped, his eyes nearly black as he wrapped his hands over the crown of my head and rocked into me. My fangs retracted, and I wrapped my legs around his hips, crying out.

My hands—my claws?—

His blood was hot and wet on my fingertips. I had marked him. My wolf was satisfied, and the world around us faded, dissolving into an ethereal haze.

"Together," Rowan gasped, our bodies wild and furious, his alpha energy washing through me like a drug.

“Yes,” I moaned, our connection swelling like a rising tide, pulling us closer to the brink, crashing against the cliffs. I couldn’t think except in colors. "Rowan!" My voice was swallowed in his flesh as I pressed into his shoulder, my teeth scraping against his skin, begging for release.

“You. Are. Mine.”

Lights exploded behind my eyes as we crested the peak, our bodies trembling as if caught in a tempest. Rowan’s body bucked, both of us gasping for breath as my arms crossed over his slick skin, completely useless.

I seemed to float, weightless and free, my cheek pressed against Rowan’s flushed neck as his arms gave way. He collapsed against me, his heart gradually beginning to slow against my chest.

I threaded my fingers in the damp hair against the base of his neck. Mine. Rowan Steele was mine.

My wolf howled her approval as we lay there, basking in the afterglow, our bodies intertwined, our souls forever bound by our love and the mated bond of our wolves.

"Did you have any idea?" I whispered, my voice raw.

“Hell no. Or I wouldn’t have waited.”

I laughed as Rowan’s lips grazed my temple. “Do you think it will be that way every time?”

He grinned against my skin. “Damn straight.”

Chapter

Thirty-Two

Rowan

Iopened my eyes to the room bathed in a soft golden glow. Sunlight filtered through the cracks in the curtains, casting dappled patterns on the walls. The bedding beneath us was in disarray, a testament to the thirty-six hours we’d spent there.

The shower was running. For the seventh time.

I grinned, stretching my arms behind my head. I could still feel Evelyn’s body imprinted on my skin, the heat of her searing into my bones.

This was what it felt like to claim and be claimed. To entrust the key to your heart to another and hope they didn’t break it.

You gonna step out into the sunlight anytime soon, bud? Jasper’s voice hummed in my head.

Green isn’t a good color on you, I sent back, then followed up with, Weren’t you the one who said I needed to take this mating thing more seriously?

I regret everything.

I chuckled, tossing off the sheets. I’ll meet you at the garage.

As much as I didn’t want to leave Evelyn’s side, I needed to talk with Jasper and Lana. I needed to meet with Blake and have a heart-to-heart with Justin before approaching Kitimat. Some of their pack members had already come sniffing around. I needed to nail down a plan for integration.

We would be one pack again.

The thought made my throat tighten. It wouldn’t be as simple as that, and I wasn’t naive enough to believe it would be. Nathan had challenged my father, and we were still knee-deep in the fallout.

But I’d learned from that experience. I knew we could do it differently.
