Dom and Austin were in negotiations regarding when to start a family, and it was actually funny to watch the two of them with their parenting books in the break room as they discussed having children. I knew the two of them would be fantastic fathers. Watching them argue about parenting decisions was truly entertaining.
“I changed her before we left the doctor’s office, but you know where the diapers are in her cubby in the daycare. I’ll be back,” I told him before I ran upstairs to the lobby, seeing Dexter in the yoga studio with Romeo strapped to his chest as he led pregnant women through prenatal yoga classes.
I knocked on the glass to see his dazzling smile as he waved to me before I traversed the stairs to the second floor. I stopped by Dom’s office to stick my head in and wave. He was on the phone, so I left him be and went down the hall to Smokey’s office where Gabby usually hung out—empty.
I knocked on the door to the next office, which was usually Nemo’s, but no answer, so I went to the office Duke rarely ever used and knocked. Ace opened the door and grinned. “Narc, where’s the little lady?”
“Austin’s got her. He said Gabby wanted to see me,” I answered.
Ace stepped out and took my arm. “You get settled in at the new place?” He led me down the back stairs toward the gym—where I’d just come from.
“Yeah, pretty much. There are a few boxes still, but those are things Amy had at her house that belong to Kelly, so I kept my nose out of them to wait for him to get home. It’s not my business until he says it is. How’s Corby?”
“He’s fantastic, as always. He’s actually going to expand the garage. He can look at Kelly’s bike if you want so it’s ready for him when he gets home. I know it’s been in the garage at your apartment since I moved it for you. He’s coming home in a few days, right?” Ace asked as we stopped outside the gym.
I felt odd about anyone driving Kelly’s bike. Ace had been kind enough to move it for me when I moved us to Gabby’s building, and then Dallas came for a quick visit for Memorial Day and took it out for a spin to “lube it up” as he’d joked. Dal said it was in good shape, so I’d intended to leave it there until Kelly returned home.
“Thanks, Ace. I’ll let you know when I hear from Kelly,” I stated as the door opened and Gabby stepped out with that Torrente grin they were all famous for.
“Where’s the princess?” Gabby asked.
“Austin has her. We had her six-month checkup this morning, and she’s getting a little fussy. I have the bid sheets for you for the upcoming jobs for the rest of the year. I need to type them up, so who do I give them to? Who’s in charge today, by the way?” I joked.
I loved working at GEA-A, but the revolving door regarding who was in charge always made me laugh. During my time at the company, Gabby, Nemo, Smokey, Mateo, Duke, Dominic, and now Casper had taken a turn at the helm. I had to wonder if it had started over with Gabby. We were running out of guys to do the heavy lifting.
Without answering me, Gabby opened the door to the gym. Standing there looking a little thinner but even more handsome than I’d ever seen him was the man I loved.
“You bastard!”
I rushed him and picked him up. His arms and legs were wrapped around me, and I could feel his warm body, which filled my eyes with tears.
“You didn’t tell me you were coming home early,” I whispered into his neck as he clung to me. It was the most incredible thing in the world to feel him in my arms again. I refused to let him go until he squirmed and my cock got hard, so I had to put him down or we’d have sex right there in front of my colleagues. I wasn’t exactly opposed to it.
“Dr. Jensen said that my tests were finally normal. I’ve talked to at least five different counselors while I was there about why I took drugs, and I don’t think any of them believed me when I said it wasn’t voluntary. After the tests confirmed I was drug free and I convinced Dr. Jenson that I wasn’t going to cut off my head, I checked myself out because I had to get back to you,” Kelly stated.
My god, I’d missed the man. “So, uh, what can I do for you?” I whispered.
Kelly laughed. “Take us home.”

I showed Kelly around the new apartment we had in Brooklyn Heights as we went into Daisy’s room and he put her down for her nap. She’d been a little restless, mostly because of the vaccinations, but she was also cutting teeth. It was the least fun thing Daisy did.
“Where’s Mia? Where’s my mom?” Kelly asked after Daisy was settled for a nap.
Clearly, Amy hadn’t sent a copy of that letter to Kelly in Arizona. “Uh, well, they moved to Maryland,” I responded.
“What? They moved to… What? They left Daisy with you?” I could see the shock setting in. His beautiful brown eyes filled with tears in an instant.
“I was happy to take her. She’s a beautiful baby with a sunny disposition—well, usually. Teething isn’t easy, as I’m sure you can imagine. Just wait until she gets to—”
Kelly shook his head. “I didn’t want to believe it. I don’t believe it. Mom wouldn’t do that.”
“Believe what?” I asked.
“Believe that she would abandon her grandchild. I was a fuck up all my life, but that little girl—I just…” He sat down on a chair and put his head in his hands.
Kneeling in front of him, I placed my hands on his legs. “Babe, it’s the rape thing. Mia can’t look at her without thinking about it, and she couldn’t love her like she should. Thankfully, Daisy has you and me to do that for her. I’m sorry they didn’t tell you themselves, but I’m here for both of you, if you want me.”
