“Why?” Brooklyn asked.
Why did he hate her so much? She was trying to help them. He was so angry and full of hate for her.
It made no sense.
“More fucking why questions. Here’s one for you. Why are you not scampering back to your room, human?” Logan growled.
Brooklyn glanced down at his other hand.
“You have my key,” she said. “Otherwise, I can assure you I would be in there hiding under the covers.”
His dark steel eyes began to swirl with something she didn’t recognize at the mention of her in bed. Or maybe she did, and she wasn’t sure either of them wanted to acknowledge it.
They had chemistry.
Powerful chemistry.
She didn’t need to be a scientist to admit that.
“You need to stay far away from me,” he rasped low in the back of his throat.
“Trust me. I’m trying.” She swallowed.
Flipping her wrist over, Logan dropped the key into her palm and stepped away. Then took another step while still facing her.
They both stood staring at one another as her heart pounded in her ears and goose bumps prickled her skin.
Logan’s eyelids lowered, then he growled. “Run, little mouse.”
So she did.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
Brayden stood in the shadows along the side of a Manhattan building. He hadn’t slept for two days. He wouldn’t until he had Willow back in his arms.
The longer she was away from him, the wilder he felt.
Wild.
Furious.
Deadly.
He had heard his brother.
He’d heard Craig.
But he’d been unable to respond. His focus was entirely on his mate and daughter.
He knew Vincent would be furious he’d taken off, and that his warriors would think him crazy for not having a plan, but standing around the ops room talking was outside his capability right now.
Willow and Isabella were in his enemy’s hands, and he needed to rip heads from necks.
Brayden needed to keep moving and hunt them down. He could move faster on his own.
He might’ve taken Craig with him if he’d woken at the same time, but he hadn’t. Even with the tinge of Moretti blood in his system.
Yes, Brayden was well aware all those years ago. His blood had empowered his commander and best friend in a way they’d never discussed.
