“I asked him what happens after he gets his money,” I blurted out. I felt if I could get them against each other, I might have a chance to escape.
“Did you now? Hmmm… seems like you’re in my business again, Amelia Edwards.” Addison tapped me on the cheek. I shifted my head away, and she jerked it back to stare in my eyes.
“Don’t dismiss me, bitch!”
“Addison!” Carlos yelled. That was the first time he took up for me. Addison released me and stepped back.
“I don’t recall telling you to have conversations with her.”
“I run my business the way I see fit.” Carlos walked off, and Addison stood in front of me.
“All you had to do was leave me alone.”
“You’re the one who came after me.”
“My mistake was letting you go that night of the party.”
“Aydin is going to find me.”
“I doubt it.”
“You think Tristan is going to stick around?”
“Tristan’s an idiot; he’ll do anything I ask.”
“You might have him fooled, but Carlos sees the truth.”
“Carlos won’t betray me. Neither will Tristan. I still have support out here.”
“You’re all over the news, Addison. Think about this please.”
“I have thought about everything, and you’re going to pay.”
“What does that mean?”
“Before you came into the picture, I was close to being in the position to have everything I ever wanted.”
“If you stop and let me go, we can work something out.”
Addison threw her head back and laughed.
“How would we work together? Do you think I’d put my life in your hands after I’ve held you hostage?” She pushed her finger in my face.
“I can talk to the police. Maybe we could get your help.”
Her nostrils flared.
“I don’t need help!”
“Okay. Okay.”
“That’s your problem now with the ‘poor me’ syndrome. Aydin probably feels sorry for you and knows how desperate you are to be loved.”
“Aydin’s not a part of this.”
“Really, you think so?” She held a cocky expression.
My eyes drifted to the door.
