“Molly, did my lunch come in yet?” I heard a familiar voice and when I looked up, it was the guy named Nasir from last night.
“Nasir, I’m not your secretary. Order your own food,” Molly fussed and waved him off.
“Do I know you from somewhere?” he asked.
“She’s the new Operations manager and Aydin’s assistant.”
My head whipped around at her statement.
“Wait, I think you have me mixed up.”
“Ohh, well, good luck with that.”
“Don’t listen to him. Aydin is harmless.”
Nasir laughed and walked off.
“He’s an ass. So, are you going to take the job?” Molly held out a clipboard with paperwork to fill out.
“Yeahhh… Yes, I’ll take the job.” I didn’t have any choice at this point. My rent was due next month, and begging my parents or sister wasn’t an option.
“Great. Take these forms, and I’ll show you to your office.”
“An office?”
Molly came around the desk and pointed toward the elevator. I trailed behind and listened to her explain the duties.
“You’ll basically keep Aydin focused and on track. He’s the owner of TN Security.”
“Wouldn’t that make you the Operations manager?”
She waved me off.
“Nope, I have enough responsibility. Besides, I’m getting married in a month and plan to take some time off.”
“Who’s going to run the front desk?”
“That’s why I hired temporary staff.”
Ding!
We stepped off on the tenth floor, and I followed her down the hall to a wooden door. She pushed the key inside, and it automatically unlocked. My mouth dropped in shock. The place was the size of two offices; even my living room wasn’t this big. It had cream carpeting, large, plush pillows on the couch, wide, long windows, a glass table, and artwork that I couldn’t take my eyes off.
“What do you think?”
“Are you sure this is my office?”
She chuckled.
“Yes, it’s your office.” Molly took my coat out of my hand.
“Are you positive they said they would hire me for this position?”
“Your experience speaks for itself. Fill out everything, and we’ll get you the keys to the office.”
“Okay, I forgot to ask. How much does the position pay?”
“Seventy thousand a year, plus benefits.”
