“I wanted to find out if you enjoyed the fundraiser last night.”

“It was interesting.”

“Interesting. That word is something I’ve never heard about my events.” She nodded, watching me with a long-held eye contact. I couldn’t help but think she was here to find out what I heard; something about her surprise pop-up was questionable.

“It was my first time, so I don’t have anything to compare it to.”

“True.” She rubbed her hand up her thigh, then stood.

My eyes peered up at her.

“Aydin told me you’re the office manager or something, so I wanted to bring you the check for last night’s event.” Addison pulled a check from her purse and extended it to me.

“You could have left this with the front desk.”

“I could have, but I wanted to meet you and apologize for my attitude last night.”

“Forgiven, nothing to bring up anymore.”

I flipped open my file folder to start work.

“That’s a check for ten thousand, and I wanted to book another event in Chicago.”

“I would have to speak with Aydin.”

“What does that mean?”

“Molly handles most of the bookings, and she’s out on vacation.” I logged into my computer and pulled up the calendar of accounts we handled.

“I’m sure Aydin would tell you to just put me in for next month.”

“I would suggest you take that up with him.”

She glared at me.

“Of course, ohh… there’s one more thing.” she started to leave, raised her hand, and my leg shook in nervousness.

“Uh huh.”

“I hope my speech moved you to make a donation.” She winked and walked out of my office. I rubbed the back of my neck and down my face.

“She knows,” I muttered to myself. I dove into work and brought up the contracts they had with Addison’s family, remembering the numbers didn’t look right from the last two events they provided for her family.

Ring!

“Amelia Edwards,” I answered and checked through my emails.

“I take it you still have a job.”

I chuckled at Dani’s comment, leaned back in my seat, and crossed my legs.

“I barged into Nasir’s office and told him about me being fired.”

“Nasir. That name sounds sexy,” Dani teased.

“Nope, you have enough men on your roster.”

“Ughh, stop trying to block me.”
