“You have no idea. This one has not stopped with all his questions for the doctor.”
Aydin shut the door and climbed in the front seat. My parents placed my things in the back, kissed me, and walked off to their car. I knew they’d have questions about my life choices and changes, but I couldn’t dwell on what happened forever. I was healed now or at least safe from harm. Nasir drove out of the hospital parking lot and stared out the window at the city lights. I could breathe a sigh of relief and feel the anguish of being locked up no longer.
“Can we stop at my place?”
“Why?”
“I wanted to see if anything needs to be replaced.”
“You can do that later, but you’re moving in permanently.”
“Aydin,” I groaned and threw my head back on the seat.
“No arguments. I need to know you’re safe at all times.”
“We’ll discuss it later.”
Thirty minutes later, we pulled up to his home, and I noticed a few cars parked in his driveway and on the block. He came around and helped me out of the car.
“I’m fine, babe.” I leaned into his arms and kissed him on the mouth, sucking on his bottom lip. He caressed my ass and groaned into my mouth.
“Save that until after I leave.” Nasir cleared his throat, and I pulled back.
“Sorry.” I grabbed Aydin’s hand, and we walked into his house.
“Surprise!” I jumped back.
My mouth dropped open at everyone from the office and my parents here with a large sign that said Welcome Home.
“When did you do this?”
Aydin wiped the tear from my left cheek.
“Dani planned it when I told her we found you.”
Dani ran over and hugged me.
“So glad you’re safe,” Dani said.
“Me too, you didn’t have to do all of this, Dani.”
“Yes, we did. You’re my best friend,” Dani responded and motioned at the buffet of food on the table.
“Wow. You guys went all out.”
“I only do things big and dramatic,” Dani joked and picked up a tray of my favorite snacks: Oreo cookies, Thin Mints, and salt and vinegar chips.
“You need to eat first, Amelia.” Mom held a plate of food in front of me.
“You cooked!” I reached over to hug her.
“Of course I did. I knew we wouldn’t convince you to stay with us, but your father wanted to try one more time.” Mom winked at me.
I chuckled at Dad and Mom being in Aydin’s house and driving him crazy for the last few days without me as a buffer.
“Sit and eat.” Aydin helped me over to the couch, and I talked with Molly and a few co-workers.
“Did you ever fill out a police report?” Dani poured me a glass of wine, and I sipped it.
