Page 34 of Losing My Rejection

So, with our bodies pressed close, we wrapped the large blanket around our shoulders and watched the eastern sky lighten as day drew nearer. Neither of us had slept because, unbeknownst to us, we’d played the entire night away. And yet, we couldn’t force ourselves to leave. The prospect of watching the sun rise over the lake was far too romantic of a notion for me to give up. And Josh didn’t seem to mind. In fact, I had a feeling he was looking forward to it.

We didn’t have to talk as the gray of early morning shifted into pink. Both of us were content just to be in one another’s arms. His skin felt so comforting against mine and the touch of his fingers made my heart skip a beat. I could’ve stayed like that forever, with my his arm around my waist and my head on his shoulder. My life had never been more perfect.

“Look at that!” Josh suddenly said, leaning forward.

I lifted my head just as the horizon turned green before giving way to the warm orange of the sun. I couldn’t help but smile.

“What the hell was that?” Josh asked excitedly. “Is it like aliens or something? The northern lights?”

I shook my head. “That was the green flash. It’s pretty rare.”

“I’ve never heard of that… or seen it before.”

“There are some people that it’s a sign.”

“A sign of what?”

I looked up at him. “Old wives tales claim that anyone who sees the green flash will never again go wrong in matters of the heart.” I put my head back on his shoulder. “It’s a nice thought, isn’t it?”

Josh didn’t reply. Instead, he placed his kissed the top of my head and pulled me in close. Together we watched the sun rise over Lake Huron, filling the sky with pinks and golds before it slowly turned to blue.

“We should probably get going,” I said at last. “They’re gonna open the park soon and sneaking out naked in the daylight is much harder to do.”

Josh nodded and together we packed up what little we’d brought. As we hiked back through the woods, he took my hand of his own accord, lacing our fingers together. The butterflies in my stomach erupted and I did everything I could not to smile like an idiot the entire way. Those little moments of affection were what I lived for. And they meant so much more when they came from Josh. He might not be ready to call me his mate, but I knew he was mine. Beyond a shadow of a doubt. It’s what he had to be. There was no way I could feel this way without that kind of connection.

I just wondered how I’d ever find the words to tell him.

Thankfully, the rangers hadn’t yet opened the park, so we were able to slip into my van without being seen and pull out clothes back on. Heading back toward town, I figured Josh would want to go back to the hotel to clean up. Neither of us were meant to start work for a couple more hours, so we could at least sneak in a tiny nap before the long day ahead.

But when we got to the appropriate intersection, Josh reached a hand over and placed it on my thigh.

“Take me back to the bakery,” he said, his voice shaking. “I… left something there.”

“No problem.”

So, I took the opposite turn instead. Amarok Cafe was already opened when we arrived thanks to my barista. I parked around back so we could take the stairs up to my apartment. After all, we were covered in sand and lake water, so it probably wasn’t the best idea to go through the kitchen. Josh followed me up silently, acting a bit more nervous than he had been all night. Once we were inside, I turned back to him.

“What did you forget?” I asked.

“Uh… I…” He let out a long sigh. “I didn’t forget anything.”

I gave him a quizzical look. “Okay…”

“I… I needed to tell you something.”

“Alright.”

“I…” He paused taking a deep breath. “I really like you, Andy. And not as a friend. I don’t really understand how it happened or why but I like you.” He closed the distance between us, his hands on either side of my face. “I want to go all the way with you. If… If that’s okay…”

The burst of adrenaline in my chest nearly caused me to pass out. I wanted to shout, cry, and jump for joy all at the same time. But I also didn’t want to scare him off with an over the top reaction. Instead, I forced my elation down and just gave him a small smile.

“I would love that.” Giving him a soft kiss, I reached down and took his hand. “Let’s rinse off first though, okay?”

“R-Right!”

His cheeks were intensely red, which was adorable. I led him to the bathroom, the pair of us stripping off our clothing in silence. Flipping on the shower, I gave him a grin and pulled him inside. The heat of the water washed over me, but nothing could compare to the heat and electricity I felt between us. Leaning back against the cold tiled wall, I pulled Josh against me, our already hard cocks grinding against one another as he slipped his tongue into my mouth.

I could feel the passion in Josh’s movements as he kissed me harder than I’d ever been kissed. There was something new in his intensity, a sort of confidence he didn’t have before. I was used to him being lustful, but with an edge of cautiousness. It was like he was afraid to like it too much. But that was gone now. He kissed me hard and deep, the way a mate lays claim to a lover. Maybe I was just letting my imagination get the better of me, but something had definitely changed.
